Graphic Coating of Utah Salt Lake City, Utah
Owner Manager
In 1986, I created Graphic Coating, which was a company the provided the printers, high gloss coatings on their printed sheets, foil and emboss finishing to give their products glitter and texture, and also provided cut and glued boxes for the packaging industry. The company also film laminated sheets for the ultimate protection and and added window film to high light the clients product. The company was on of kind in Utah providing all the above services under one roof. Our finish products were performed in very tight time frames and quality was what our name was all about. Our goal was perfection expected in very finished brochure, book, and packaged box. We captured the market share in the intermountain states and our name was very recognize through the industry. We grew from zero accounts to over 300 within a very short time frame and the business was able to accomplish the needs of the printers here in Utah and the surrounding states. I learned to how to formulate math equations so one could know the cost of materials, the labor costs, the over head costs and profit on each project, so we could be competitive and yet very profitable in every job. I know how to read financial statements and analyze the categories found in each statement and be able follow trends and try to predict and calculate the coming years. I learned to deal with all types of vendors and servicemen and understood the meaning of being conservative in all expenditures. I experienced the need and success of negotiating in dealing with both customers and vendors and know how to get the most with the least. The experience of owner manager is so valuable in dealing with the public and employee relations and thus know how to be an excellent employee.
December 1977 to April 1986
Chem-Dry of San Francisco San Francisco, CA
Owner - Manager
In 1978, I purchased a franchise named Chem-Dry and was the second franchise purchased. Chem-Dry was new type of carpet cleaning process which used bio-degradable chemicals with no residue, in place of sticky shampoos and flooded carpets. I purchased the franchise with a van for the price of $10,000 and eight years later sold the franchise for $550,000. I learned customer relations real fast and was able to hire, train, and motivate employees. I learned the technique of pricing out each and every job and knew the process of profit and loss and how to money manage and do payrolls and payables and receivables, which helped take the next step in starting my next corporation.
April 1968 to February 1978
Graphic Coating of CA San Francisco, Utah
Production Manager
When I was still in high school, I helped my dad start his own company and I became in charge of all production, machine maintenance, mixing of all the coating chemicals. I did this part time during high school, and during my college years in the summer time. It was a family business and I loved the business but could not work with my family, due to our differences in business opinions. I wanted to promote the business and market it and add different services and my father was happy doing coating only and I felt there was so many other opportunities and was not happy in being complacent. I left to start another business so I could reach my ultimate goal of owning a graphic coating in another state and having the finances to do so.
