SUMMARY
Twenty-three years of process engineering and project management experience in petrochemical and
pharmaceutical plants in the areas of project scope development, project management/implementation,
process safety management, process troubleshooting, optimization of equipment performance,
equipment/instrumentation, design modifications and specifications, and plant startup. Process design
engineering from both production and technical service perspectives.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dow Chemical Company, Plaquemine, Louisiana
Lead Process Engineer October 2011-Present
• As lead process engineer of 15-20 projects ranging in size from ~$200K-$2MM, developed full scope,
including P&IDs, process control strategies, and detailed equipment/instrumentation design.
• Conducted several plant studies to identify process limitations on unit operations and develop process
improvement options for possible implementation; realized a $300K capital project savings for one
business.
Process Improvement Engineer/Project Management January 2007-October 2011
• As improvement engineer, addressed process/production limitations and process safety
compliance deficiencies through innovative identification and development of solutions highlighted by
the following:
o Evaluation of existing storage tank scrubbers’ capacity and operational strategy led to
operating discipline improvements allowing for a project savings of ~$250K.
o Used Aspen modeling and hydraulic loading program to address product recovery
limitations in a key distillation train. Implemented recommended strategies to move feed
point location, control point location, and tower operating variables resulted in 30%
recovery improvements. Team received Dow recognition award in waste reduction
category.
o Successfully addressed 2 key process safety compliance deficiency areas, which had been
open for several years through innovative, practical solutions and working with technical
advisors, plant leadership, and plant personnel.
o Project leader in scope development, design, and implementation/start-up for several
small projects addressing plant bottlenecks such as cooling limitations and equipment life
extension needs.
• Achieved Six Sigma Greenbelt Project Leader certification on steam savings project which
realized energy savings of ~$25K/month.
• Trained on AspenTech modeling program as well as pressure drop and flow rating and design
tool (SiNET) and Heat Transfer Research Institute (HTRI) heat exchanger rating/design program
INVISTA, Sabine River Works, Orange, Texas May 2005-January 2007
Site Process Safety Manager/Coordinator
PERSONAL AND CONFIDENTIAL
• Led site effort to assess entire Process Safety Management Program per new owner requirements
and develop/implement plans to rebuild the program
Merck & Co., Albany, Georgia June 2003-May 2005
Senior Safety and IH Specialist/Site Process Safety Coordinator
• Prepared site for detailed hazard analysis of all processes and audits (Process Safety and Merck
safety programs/guidelines) and actively led site in addressing deficiencies per developed action
plan
Rhodia, Inc., Spartanburg, South Carolina May 1998-June 2003
Sr. Process Engineer/Site Process Safety Coordinator
• Revalidated several PHA’s by leading multi-disciplined teams through specific approaches
developed for each PHA as needed; plant leader in resolving PSM issues
• Led efforts to automate batch processes through process logistics mapping for sequence building
and identifying required field instrument replacements/requirements
• Identified process improvement opportunities (20% cycle time reduction) in the batch processing
of oxide-based surfactants; subsequently lead process engineering team charged with
implementing identified process improvements, including design, installation, and startup
Rhodia, Inc., Baton Rouge, Louisiana Jan. 1997-May 1998
Process Engineer
• Developed a new process strategy to improve annual plant yields by
$40K and increase plant productivity by 10% by initiating studies and equipment
capability tests
• Unit process engineer involved in debottlenecking efforts in the production of various products;
trained in the use of Aspenplus for the process simulation of continuous and batch operations.
Three additional Production/Process Engineer Assignments June 1989-Jan 1997
Baton Rouge, LA Area
