Resume:

January *, ****

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my interest in a position as an environmental geoscientist (Job #1675)

and to submit my resume for your consideration. I have recently graduated from Rensselaer

Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Environmental Science, with a concentration in Geology. I

feel like I would be a great fit who would benefit from what this position has to offer and in turn

can offer you hard work and knowledge.

During my academic experience at Rensselaer, I gained knowledge both inside and outside the

classroom. In the Environmental Science program, I’ve been all over the Northeast for classes to

apply knowledge about relevant and recent environmental issues we learned in class to the

surrounding area, learning more about the geology involved, and specifics of the environment.

In particular, my One Mile of the Hudson class was a semester-long case study on the history of

the anthropological effects on and remediation techniques for Superfund sites surrounding the

New York City area. I also conducted undergraduate research with the Darrin Fresh Water

Institute at Rensselaer. Every month for two years, I would go to the Adirondacks and survey

lakes and streams connected to Lake George. In the summers, I would go to the Bolton

Landing, New York facility where I analyzed samples from over 30 lakes in the Adirondacks for

water quality, bacteria count, acidity, and sediment. I have also started a volunteer internship

with the United States Geological Survey for the fall semester.

As a member of the RPI Players, the student run theater group at Rensselaer, I worked in every

department available to me, including producing, directing, and running theatrical technical

systems. Most recently, I was the youngest person to direct the mainstage spring musical and I

am currently producing a musical for my theater honor fraternity, Alpha Psi Omega. I also was a

staff member and editor for the campus literary magazine, Statler & Waldorf, employing my

skills as a writer, researcher, and editor.

While in school, I experienced a variety of personal tragedies and illnesses that account for a 2-

1/2 year break I took from school. During this time, I worked in a law firm, where I gained real-

world work experience with clients, deadlines, and work ethic. I am a very smart and hard

working person who unfortunately encountered hardships while acquiring an education. I have a

variety of personal and professional references I could provide if you wish.

Ultimately, I feel that this employment opportunity would be a great match for my skills and

future goals. In terms of salary, I am looking for something in the $50,000+ range but am open

to negotiations. I sincerely hope to have the opportunity to meet with you in the future to

further discuss my interest and qualifications for these positions. Thank you very much for your

time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Samantha Malanche
