Led multi-agency effort in successful salvage and pollution mitigation of sunken barge blocking gates
of McAlpine dam
Significantly reduced reportable injuries and mishaps over entire four year period
On scene leader during salvage of several sunken towing vessels on Ohio River and particularly
challenging salvage of sunken towing vessel in remote stretch of Green River over Thanksgiving
2005. All vessels raised successfully without injury or further pollution. Rivers opened to navigation
and root causes identified
Recognition
Received award (CG Commendation Medal) for actions in response, safety, salvage, and mitigation
of fully loaded 800,000 gallon asphalt barge that broke loose from tow, went over Falls of the Ohio,
and lodged on its’ side against railroad bridge. Actions mitigated 230,000 gallon spill and prevented
remaining asphalt from entering the Ohio River
