Southco Inc., Honeoye Falls, New York, 1998-2009.
A worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of latches and access hardware.
Manufacturing Engineer II (2003-2009)
Responsible for day-to-day manufacturing and engineering support of an assigned list of 10-15 product
lines.
Designed assembly tooling for a family of 4 custom latches sold to International Truck for a new sleeper
cab, and created all process documentation.
Supported the launch of removable hardtop latch on the current generation Jeep Wrangler. Authored all
process documentation, and managed the procurement of automated assembly equipment at an outside
vendor.
Led process FMEA and design for assembly analysis for launch of an electromechanical latch.
Implemented design and process improvements that improved production rate by 50% and error-proofed
most assembly steps.
Successfully launched the E6 friction hinge that was used on the first generation Chrysler Stow-n-Go
application. Managed the procurement of two pieces of automated equipment.
Completed a large scale improvement project for an outdoor enclosure latch. Reduced product cost by
15% and reduced reject rate to near zero. Annual savings of $35,000 in material usage and scrap
avoidance.
Justified and implemented a central lubricant distribution system for our pressroom that mixes stamping
oil and delivers it to each stamping press, eliminating the need for operators to leave their machines to get
oil. Annual labor savings of $70,000.
Manufacturing Engineer I (2000-2003)
Provided manufacturing engineering support to re-launch of an existing latch with updated tooling.
Coordinated testing and validation of new components, created process documentation, and designed
fixtures and gaging.
Submitted engineering change proposals to solve quality, design, and manufacturability issues.
Led and participated in several Kaizen and 5S events.
Southco, Inc., continued
Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op (1998-2000)
Created and revised drawings for tools, fixtures, and gages.
Designed assembly fixtures to solve ergonomic and productivity problems.
Automated an existing assembly line by installing pneumatic cylinders and automatic greasing equipment.
Installed, wired, and programmed a PLC system to control the process.
Extrude Hone Corporation, Irwin, Pennsylvania, 1998.
A designer and builder of machine tools for non-traditional manufacturing processes.
Mechanical Engineer Co-Op
Provided engineering support to machine build department.
Worked on the design team for a custom abrasive flow machining system.
Created models and drawings with Pro Engineer.
Selection and ordering of off-the-shelf components, consulting with manufacturers and vendors of
components.
