Employment / 1 to 2 Year Contract Position
Ref:
Dear Sir/Ma’am:
I would like to be considered for employment within your company. The opportunity to explore and
expand on my talents and abilities, while learning from and contributing to your company, is my
objective. Contract work, 1 to 2 years is desirable.
In June of 2007 I had taken a temporary leave of absence from my career in the construction
industry in order to work with Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity as an AmeriCorps member. I entered
the program as a way to help out their executive director who was suddenly without a construction
director. Once a permanent construction director was in place, I sought out new and various odd
jobs in order to expose myself to other exciting environments, such as working with private jets,
vineyards and limousine companies as a means to make a living while I continue to pursue my
college degree in Intelligence. Currently, I am working as a Customer Service Representative at
Santa Fe Air Center and Capital Aviation in Santa Fe, NM, both of which are owned by Ross
Aviation.
Having had some time off to explore other avenues, I am now refreshed and anxiously ready to
enter back into a career position. The following is some professional and personal, background
information on me, in addition to a chronological resume.
===
Military Career: I spent a total of 14 years as an enlisted member, Active Duty United States Air
Force (AF) as well as the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves. In 1991, I signed up for, and
successfully completed, a four year commitment serving in Active Duty, United States Air Force.
My career field during this time was in Command & Control (C2). After my four years were up, I
came home to Albuquerque, NM and signed up with the NM Air National Guard for a 1 year term.
Once in the Guard, I immediately volunteered for a tour and spent the entire year on active duty in
Italy performing C2 work while working a United Nations mission. After which, I moved on from the
Guard and joined the Air Foce Reserves. I spent about a year under “regular” reserves in C2
assigned to a Colorado Springs, unit. It was there I learned of a better program within the reserves
and become an IMA (Individual Mobile Augmentee.) The difference being, regular reserves you
work with a reserve component whereas as an IMA, one is assigned to an active duty component.
There were no C2 slots open for IMA’s at the time so I ended up cross training into the intelligence
career field.
My intelligence career started off in targets, then imagery, illegal small arms and drug trafficking,
open source research and finished up in biometrics (human identification) systems. The majority of
my military career as a Guard and Reserve member was spent on active duty.
Self Employed / Development Investments: Needing a break from my military career, I decided
Page 1 of 5
to pursue independent employment working on various family investments. My brother is a general
contractor and developer, my dad, a retired plumber who owned his own plumbing company for
over 30 years. Originally, I had started off my degree majoring in architecture. The family business
plan was to invest and develop neighborhoods with interesting, unique homes and businesses.
After a few years of hits and misses in such family endeavors, I ended up going back to work as a
project manager/engineer/coordinator for other construction companies.
Civilian/Construction Career: I worked as a government contractor at Sandia National Labs, as a
project coordinator in Facilities Express, employed with the international architectural and
engineering firm, DMJM H&N. I was also a government contractor working with Ball Aerospace as
an open source analyst at Kirtland Air Force base.
I have been a project manager (residential) and project engineer/coordinator (commercial) for a
variety of general contractors and development companies. Most recently, I worked with Gerald
Martin General Contractor as a project engineer.
Non-Profit Exposure: While at Gerald Martin General Contractor, I was asked by a friend of mine
to come on board temporarily, with Habitat for Humanity as their construction coordinator. Just long
enough to fill in until their construction director arrived from Ohio. At this point in my career, I had
started to get burnt out in the corporate world and decided to try out something different.
Working with Habitat for half a year was interesting. I was hired on under a grant position which
only paid eleven thousand dollars for a year. I was curious to see if I could make it work. It was a
good experience and it was exactly what I needed at the moment, to help recharge the soul.
After Habitat, I thought of which direction I wanted to go. Back into construction or back into
Intelligence. The plan was to finish up my degree in Intelligence and try and get back into the Air
Force as an officer to finish out my six years to retirement. Ideally, I would like to remain a civilian
and work government contract jobs either in construction and/or Intelligence.
Other Interests: I have, and still do, enjoy a variety of jobs, a variety of people as well as a lot of
adventures throughout. In between careers, I am also working on occasion for a limousine
company here in Albuquerque. I drive luxury cars on the weekends or whenever needed. It is an
opportunity to meet interesting people one normally would not have access to such as those in
government, finance, entertainment, medical and other arenas.
I developed an interest in wine so instead of taking a class on wine, I went to work at a winery part
time in Albuquerque at Anderson Valley Vineyards. I still fill in for them on occasion, working wine
festivals, special and political events and helping out with the bottling process.
I have also spent time working as a care giver at a retirement / assistant living home. While with
Habitat for Humanity, it was required of me, and other AmeriCorps members, to do some civil
service and community contribution projects. I found such service to be both a positive and
rewarding experience.
I am also involved with my local neighborhood association. I became involved as a result of the city
and county plans to turn my family neighborhood into a commercial development area. My
involvement is staying up on all the development meetings, legislation, zoning issues, writing
letters to congressman/woman, and other area representatives, and keeping the neighborhood
informed of my findings. In addition, I have developed and maintain the neighborhood association
web site.

Personal: I am a single woman of 38 with no children. While in the military, I have had the
opportunity to travel all over the world. I have worked in third world countries, helped communities
in foreign countries and have become actively involved within my own community.
I separated from the United States Air Force in December of 2006 and currently, a senior at
American Military University earning my degree in Intelligence. Although I am a full time student, I
take classes on line so my schedule is flexible. I also enjoy studying Spanish and acoustic guitar
on the side. My long term goals are to use my intelligence degree to help in research and story
development for a possible future in fiction, novel writing.
I enjoy being physically active: run and bike regularly, play racquetball and enjoy playing volleyball
as well.
If there are any positions within your company for which I qualify, I would appreciate being
considered for such. I am willing and able to relocate, with assistance, for the right opportunity.
Included is a copy of my resume for your review. Thank you for your time and consideration, I look
forward to hearing from you.
Regards,
Janelle Santillanes
