EXPERIENCE
Polypipe SAP 5.0 Apr - June 2009
This manufacturer of piping products has SAP already implemented. This was a separate project to implement the
•
business intelligence component of SAP, chiefly CO-PA.
The project that is billed as a ‘rapid implementation’ of 7 weeks involving a single consultant, myself, in conjunction
•
with a couple of client resources. Project planning, system design, financial architecture, configuration and go live
were all executed personally.
The main features of the design were the tie back of purchase price variances to finished goods sold as raw materials
•
price fluctuations are highly volatile resulting in violent swings in profitability.
Implemented changes in their product costing design with new cost component structure and new activity rates
•
structure supporting my new design for ‘contribution margin’ reporting.
Medtronic – Project Athena SAP 4.6 March 2009
Engaged by this world class player in the medical engineering field to review their CO-PA design and write a report as
•
to how it would integrate in their SAP system once they substituted a third party billing package for SAP’s SD module.
This involved extensive design review meetings with the project team, their BW designers as well as business users.
•
2
After 4 weeks the report was presented to the project team and IT leadership. This report highlighted risks and
•
opportunities as well as a detailed proposal for a CO-PA re-build project showing timelines, project plan and
resourcing required.
Smurfit-Stone – Project Compass III ECC 6.0 Oct 2008 – Jan 2009
Roll out of Order-to-Cash processes to the Container division of Smurfit-Stone, a client who already operates SAP FI
•
and Profit Center Accounting.
Responsible for the CO-PA design and configuration.
•
Participated in the Product Costing design, testing and roll out.
•
Developed design and specification of code for Sales Billing document (invoices, credit notes).
•
Diageo – Project Unity Releases 10 and 11 SAP 4.7 Sept 2006 – July 2008
GLOBAL IMPLEMENTATION
Participant in a global project to unify all worldwide SAP instances within Diageo, the world’s largest adult beverage
•
company, into one global instance based in London. This required migrating existing SAP clients based in Australia,
Brazil, Mexico and the United States to one in the UK. Apart from the technical issues associated with such an
endeavor, there were significant design inconsistencies in the local instances’ SAP designs which needed to be
resolved as part of this project.
Worked in the role of North American Management Report Team Lead and Global Financial Data Conversion Lead.
•
Specific work involved:
o Analysis of gaps between local design and global template. Negotiation with global design authority to make
amendments to design to cover North American requirements,
o Redesign of legacy financial interfaces to interface with the new instance, and in some cases with a changed
FICO design.
o Design of the inter company trading model used to distribute profit to brand holders, distribution rights owners,
etc throughout the group.
o Design of interface with the global reporting package, Magnitude, from SAP (CO-PA, special GL and FI).
o Performed financial conversion of FI/CO history for the Australian/New Zealand, Mexican, US, Canadian and
Brazilian markets. This included income statement as well as balance sheet. Developed an MS Access
conversion tool to allow the efficient translation, summarization and output of extracted legacy data for upload
to new instance. This resulted in the conversion of nine months of history for the general ledger / COPA
records of over 50 company codes, operating in half a dozen currencies, in three weeks. Managed the
conversion of the fixed asset registers for the USA and Canada resulting in loading over 12,000 assets.
o During the North American move to the global instance, a major reorganization of the corporate structure was
implemented. This was a simplification of the corporate landscape, closing many company codes and crating
new ones. The change meant a significant redesign of processes, in addition to the complication added to the
conversion process.
Diageo Canada – Project Janus (Release 7) SAP 4.7 Oct 2005 – July 2006

•
Conversion of nine months detailed financial history (P&L and Balance Sheet) from legacy system to SAP. This
•
involved specifying and building an enhancement in the BPCS legacy system to extract and summarize the P&L data
by customer / brand.
3
Design of advertising and promotion reporting and control system based upon WBS elements (Project Systems).
•
Design of interface between SAP and the manufacturing/bottling software (SPIRIT\1) as part of the parallel Product
•
Costing / Cost Object Controlling project.

•
o Project leader of Phase 1 in addition to being System Architect for this phases’ design.
