Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica, New York
Provide operational leadership in a 197-bed acute care hospital that generates $170M annually.
Hospital is a Level-1 Trauma Center and includes a 43-bed Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, 115-
Bed Skilled Nursing Facility, Cancer Center, and is a teaching hospital of New York Medical
College for 185 residents. In 2008 the hospital had 10,000 inpatient discharges, 118,000 outpatient
visits, and 42,000 emergency room visits. Manage budget in excess of $160M with a staff of 1,200
FTEs and 14 direct reports. Hospital is currently part of Caritas Health Care, Inc, $345M system and
formerly part of St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers of New York; a $1.4B organization that
encompassed five acute care and one behavioral health hospital, four skilled nursing facilities.
Provided leadership oversight for successful transition of hospital to Caritas from St.
Vincent’s.
Negotiated new clinic program for Developmentally Disabled Adults- resulting in 5,000
additional clinic visits, 200 annual admissions, and increase in ambulatory surgery cases.
Guided negotiations with the New York State Department of Health on the Healthy Living
Partnership, resulting in $3.5M grant award.
Directed privatization of Radiation Oncology Program, resulting in annual expense
savings of $1M, without impacting referrals.
Integrated and expanded a Dental and Oral Surgery Residency Program into hospital,
resulting in 5,000 additional outpatient clinic visits and increased ambulatory surgical
volume of 11%.
Provided leadership oversight for hospital’s revenue cycle program that resulted in
updating the charge description master and the decentralization of charge control to
individual departments.
Developed a cost control management process while implementing a productivity
management system resulting in a reduction of 81.5 FTEs and 40 beds; closed 24 bed in-
patient pediatric unit.
Sponsored a multi-disciplinary ED project resulting in a sustained 5% decrease in
emergency room walkouts and an increase in 2,500 billable visits.
Directed implementation of a Rapid Evaluation Unit in the ED, eliminating front-end
waiting times and improving patient satisfaction and patient flow.
Provided oversight for Emergency Department Performance Improvement team resulting
in an 8% favorable increase in CHF/MI core improvements.

Operationally responsible for the Emergency, Ambulatory Care, Ambulance, Transportation,
Admitting, and Care Management/Utilization Review Departments. Fiscal responsibilities in excess
of $9.5M managing 100 FTEs with 6 direct reports. Integral member of hospital senior management
maintaining administrator on call responsibilities.
Managed a $3.7M 3,000 square foot expansion and upgrade of existing emergency
department from design through final CON and DOH approval.
Increased telemetry capabilities and integrated the unit into a medical floor from a separate
stand-alone unit; resulted in controlling length of stay and improving bed turnover
efficiency.
Focused on ED throughput in department targeting admitted patients remaining greater
than 6 hours; sustained reduction to 3.3%, below 6% national benchmark.
Reduced and sustained reduction ED ambulance turn around times below Queens Borough
average for a period of 12 months.
Provided leadership to outsource ambulatory care schedule, which resulted in improved
patient satisfaction and patient flow.
Provided leadership for NYS DOH mandated review of the New York City Trauma
System resulting in continued Level-1 Trauma designation.
Directed a Radiology turn-around project for critical care patients requiring Cat-Scans
resulting in a reduction of wait times by 50%.
Administered and ensured compliance with a New York City Department of Health Grant
for bioterrorism preparedness with successful grant earnings in excess of $350,000.
Designed the region’s emergency management plan, including implementation of a
Hospital Emergency Incident Command System.
Provided administrative oversight to relocate a Family Practice Residency into an
approved article 28 facility; addressing a prior citation issued by the ACGME.

DIVISIONAL MANAGER OF AMBULANCE/TRANSPORTATION (1991-1997)
Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica, New York
Operational responsibility for the departments of Ambulance and Transportation, including
Central Lab Transportation and In-Patient Transportation. Coordinated the repairs and
maintenance of the 60 vehicles owned and operated by the medical center. Operating
budgetary responsibilities in excess of $3 million dollars; supervised 100 FTEs with 3 direct
reports.
PARAMEDIC SUPERVISOR (1989-1991)
Responsible for field supervision of advanced and basic life support providers in contracted
municipal 911-ambulance service. Prepared operational schedules and payroll for
department. Developed and implemented Prehospital Care Quality Assurance system.
