Senior Mechanical Engineer, O’Neal Inc., Greenville, SC
• Manage professional staff of engineers and designers at engineering firm.
Conduct performance reviews, allocate resources on projects, mentor junior
engineers, develop and implement training programs
• Lead mechanical/project engineer on various projects including plastic films, non-
woven fibers, materials recycling, emission control systems, pulp & paper, chemical
processing, and chemical storage and handling systems
Responsible for the mechanical design on multi-discipline projects for numerous
process/mechanical systems, and coordinating design activities with other
engineering disciplines and the client
• Provide engineering design
Prepare general arrangement drawings, material & energy balances, PFDs,
P&IDs, equipment specifications, and piping system hydraulic models
• Provided construction services
Engineering oversight during construction activities, performed checkout of
equipment, troubleshooting of equipment and processes, assisted with startup
and operator training
The following is a summary of several key projects:
Project Engineer, Pactiv Corporation, Greensboro, NC
Robert J. Pollard, P.E.
Plant expansion included increasing plant capacity by 33% within existing building
footprint and the relocation of several ancillary systems including a PSM covered
process. All work completed ahead of schedule.
Project Engineer, MWMB Inc., Clarksville, TN
Responsible for the design of a fiberglass recycling facility, developed product testing
plan to convert scrap into a usable raw material, assisted with process development,
selected equipment, conducted construction inspections, checked out equipment, and
started up process. Facility successfully produced usable material for this one of a kind
facility.
Project Engineer, Lubrizol Inc., Spartanburg, SC
Responsible for design of a chemical batch facility that allowed client to transfer the
production of their products back in-house from a toll manufacturer. In order to reduce
capital costs several used pieces of equipment utilized. Transfer of tolled products
completed ahead of schedule and produced products in spec as good as or better than
toll manufacturer on initial run.
1984 – 1996
Plant Engineer/Maintenance Manager, Henkel Corporation, Mauldin, SC
• Manage maintenance department at chemical manufacturer.
• Developed calibration program for plant instruments
Developed test procedures, instrument calibration schedules, and trained
technicians to enable compliance to ISO standard
• Developed PSM Mechanical Integrity Program
Developed inspection requirements for equipment, in-house test procedures,
located external resources as required, developed inspection schedule to ensure
compliance with OSHA standard
• Implement CMMS into plant operations
Setup inspection programs, maintenance work orders, storeroom inventory
system, and equipment records to properly track costs and ensure adequate
spare parts availability
• Continuously upgraded the preventive maintenance programs
Resulted in plant operations to be able to increase production from a five day to a
seven day a week operation with minimal downtime
• Develop predictive maintenance program
Allowed for a reduction of maintenance costs by extending equipment operating
cycles
• Developed and implemented projects to reduce plant energy consumption
Improve building lighting while reducing energy consumption and maintenance
costs, convert all process equipment users to interruptible natural gas service
saving over 25% in costs
Robert J. Pollard, P.E.
• Developed and implemented plant capital projects
Prepared cost estimates, capital appropriation requests, schedules, specified
equipment, managed contractors, assist with startup and operator training
