PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

CATERPILLAR, INC, Heavy Construction and Mining Division - Aurora, Illinois

January 2008 – March 2009

Design Engineer

Developed and designed sheet metal components and assemblies for large off-road construction equipment

using Pro/E. Developed new design concepts on large wheel loader machines and worked with purchasing to

evaluate cost. Designed welded joints and performed bolted joint analysis using Caterpillar internal software.

Performed modal, fatigue, and stress analysis to validate new product concepts using Pro/Mechanica.

Collaborated with suppliers and manufacturing engineering to efficiently design for manufacturability and

assembly. Created and modified components and assemblies drawings – by applying Geometric Dimensioning

and Tolerancing principles - using Pro/Engineering software.

Key Contributions:

Developed and designed a suppression group (assembly of guards, insulation, rubber sheet, etc) for two

machines while maintaining commonalities.

Identified and implemented cost reduction opportunities. Estimated cost saving of $20,000.

Executed a full life cycle design of a prop rod (support assembly) for the hood on three machines.

Led the redesigning of access systems (Handrail assemblies, toe guard, ladder, etc) for two large wheel

loader machines enabling them to meet ISO standards and marketing requirements.

Reviewed, investigated, and resolved current production issues. Highlight: Successfully redesigned a

panel assembly on the platform to shift stress from the weld to the parent material.

STRATOS OPTICAL TECHNOLOGIES, SUBSIDIARY OF EMERSON - Harwood Heights, Illinois

Manufacturer of media conversion devices, harsh environment products, and fiber optic connectors

August 2007 – January 2008

Mechanical Engineer

Developed, designed, and built prototype for new products according to customer specification. Created and

modified solid models and drawings for new and existing products using Pro/E. Analyzed expanded beam

connector design to modify existing company products to meet customer requirements.

Performed and monitored insertion test on the optical interface of the fiber optic connector. Identified design

issues and determined design direction, goals, and planning tasks for engineering programs.

Key Contributions:

Developed, designed, and built the prototype for the mechanical interface of an optical-electrical-optical

conversion device.

Developed Pro/E models and drawings for all the existing lenses used on all variations of the harsh

environment expanded beam connector.

METALDYNE, AN ASAHI TEC COMPANY - Niles, Illinois

$1.7 billion global Company; designs and produces engine, driveline, and chassis products.

July 2007 – August 2007

Intern Engineer

Developed standardized work and trained cell leader to optimize process in die casting and milling operation.

Modified process layout and work sequence by eliminating waste in work cell.

Key Contributions:

Coordinated scrap reduction, rate improvement, and quality improvement projects.

Developed and implemented a procedure to eliminate abnormal flash on part after die casting operation.

KNAACK MANUFACTURING CO., SUBSIDIARY OF EMERSON PROFESSIONAL TOOLS - Crystal Lake, Illinois

Sheet metal fabrication Company; designs, manufactures and distributes industrial storage equipment.

May 2006 – August 2006

Intern Engineer

Performed time study on key products during the fabrication, welding, and assembly operations. Identified

potential bottlenecks to production, and developed methods to reduce and prevent these impediments to

efficiency.

Key Contributions:

Participated in Kaizen that promoted continuous improvement and elimination of waste. Results:

Reduced assembler travel time, improved daily production by 30%.

Oversaw three lines of production, and created and updated production dashboard using Excel.
