Director of Distribution Center (DC) Operations
Charged with overseeing the day-to-day facility operations, ensuring the smooth flow of merchandise
from the DC to store locations and consumers. Maintained full P&L accountability for the retail and
direct operation’s cost center while supervising 15 exempt and up to 498 hourly employees . Monitored
the shipping / receiving of merchandise at the DC and compared the stock on hand with the inventory
figures to ensure that inventory levels are accurately maintained. Trained employees and monitored
performance to ensure work processes were accomplished in a timely and effective manner.
Challenges: (1) Managed all retail and direct distribution operations and facilities at a 986,000
square foot multi-shift, fully automated operation; (2) Developed improved processes to ensure quality
and on-time delivery to 308 stores and 32 outlets; (3) Built a high-performance team of exempt and
hourly employees through ongoing training and professional development opportunities; (4) Worked
closely with vendors to pre-ticket items and streamline the distribution process.
FAO SCHWARZ / ZANY BRAINY, Swedesboro, NJ 2000 – 2002
Distribution / Operations Manager
Recruited to turn around the company’s poorly performing distribution and operational functions at a
300,000 square foot fully automated fulfillment distribution center. Worked closely with the executive
team to analyze areas of opportunity and create a comprehensive plan to improve key performance
metrics, including fill rate, productivity, and profitability. Oversaw P&L management, customer
service, delivery, transportation, contract negotiations, and day-to-day management of multiple sites.
Challenges: (1) Integrated new logistics / distribution methodologies into a fully automated
environment; (2) Supervised daily activities of the DC employees, including training, scheduling,
assignment delegation, and daily reviews to ensure that assigned duties were completed accurately
and in a timely manner; (3) Identified cost savings opportunities across the facility.
TJX / MARMAXX, Las Vegas, NV 1998 – 2000
Processing Manager / Shift Manager
Hired to assist with startup operations for a newly formed entity within the TJX Companies that
integrated the logistics functions with two of the company’s leading brands, TJ Maxx and Marshalls .
Managed a team of 10 supervisors and 225 union associates to achieve pack-out and distribution
capabilities while maximizing flexibility and cost effectiveness. Established a performance
measurement process; maintained, analyzed, and reported on trended results, anticipated bottlenecks,
and made appropriate changes before they became customer facing issues.
Challenges: (1) Took over second shift general management responsibilities shortly after joining the
organization; (2) Assisted with managing the addition of 500,000 square feet of facility space;
directed the recruitment, hiring, and training of all employees to get the expanded facility functional
as quickly as possible.
