Achievements in the Last Job:
• Have developed a column chromatographic method for separating different
classes of sebum components by using a mixture of n-hexane, chloroform and
diethyl ether as eluting solvents
• Have extensively studied the interaction between sweat and sebum components
and have proved that it is the inorganic nitrogen containing components in the
sweat that contribute more towards soiling of garments rather than other
components of sweat. Also, have proved that the sulfur containing amino acids in
sweat, even though present to a negligible extent, contribute towards soiling to a
considerable extent
• Have proved by a study that particulate accumulation on garments is directly
proportional to the level of sebum
• Have developed a robust, selective colorimetric method for analyzing, alpha-,
beta-unsaturated digalacturonides, which is one of the main breakdown products
of the biopolymer pectin, obtained by the enzymatic hydrolysis of pectin. Have
extended and developed this method as a standard colorimetric method for
analyzing both high and low methoxyl pectins even in the trace levels. Have
documented this method and it is being used in the Unilever as a standard
method for quantifying pectins.
