SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:
2006 – 2008 Orbital Engineering, Hammond, IN. Lead Mechanical Engineer on several waste
water projects for the BP Refinery in Whiting, IN. These included locating
a leak between two sewer systems and plugging it, developing covers and a
nitrogen purge system for several sumps, designing, supervising pipe layout
development and specifying equipment to pump treated waste water out into
Lake Michigan. Also walked down P&ID mark-ups and supervised CAD
corrections to them. Participated in the design and selection of new flow
meters and RV’s for one of the processing units.
2006 Bechtel Engineers, Frederick, MD. Sized sub-systems, developed drawings,
and specified equipment for an FGD retrofit to the Sammis power plant.
1996 - 2001 Sargent & Lundy Engineers, Chicago, IL. Reconstituted calculations for
piping, pumps, and relief valves for DC Cook Nuclear Power Plant. Reviewed
and checked P&Ids, isometric drawings, and calculations for Santee Cooper
Combined Cycle Plant. Five months field assignment to Paris, France to work
on Normandy IGCC project. Performed calculations, wrote design criteria
documents, wrote specifications, and expedited drawings for Redhawk Combined
Cycle project. Temporary assignment to S&L’s Houston office to perform
similar work on Tupelo Combined Cycle project. Responsible for engineering
analysis and preparation of specifications for several miscellaneous fossil
power plant upgrade projects including an ash storage system expansion, low
Nox conversion and soot blower upgrade. Responsible for expediting and
preparing contract documents and specifications for procurement actions for
two coal fired power plants in China and one DOE advanced coal technology
project.
1994 - 1996 GKC Engineers, Chicago, IL. Responsible for the analysis and design of all
major systems for a 40 MW, Steel Blast Furnace Gas fired cogeneration power
plant. Responsibilities included preparing equipment specifications and bid
packages.
1992 - 1993 Intercontinent Engineers, Downers Grove, IL. Performed engineering analysis
and equipment sizing for several landfill gas fired, electrical generation
projects. This included one Organic Rankine Cycle project. Other projects
included steam pipe stress analysis, power plant oil spill contingency
planning, and analysis of water sprinkler fire suppression system. Work
involved extensive use of computer including Autocad.
1983 - 1991 Army Corps of Engineers' Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (USA-
CERL), Champaign, IL. Performed research for the Energy Systems Division in
Heat Recovery Incineration of wastes and advanced coal technologies.
Developed standardized design for small incinerator plants. Used
microcomputers to organize and analyze data through data bases, spread
sheets, word processing and CAD.
1975 - 1982 Fluor Power Services, Chicago, IL. Performed engineering analysis of
electric utility power plant systems. Performed industrial cogeneration
studies and helped prepare proposals for Fluidized Bed Combustion and
industrial cogeneration projects. Assessed the work of other less
experienced engineers.
1979 - 1980 Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, IL. (Temporarily assigned from Fluor
Power Services) Conducted Fluidized Bed Combustion research by surveying
almost all domestic and several foreign FBC projects.
