PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
AUTOMATED DESIGN AND CONTROL (Independent Contractor) (11/03 – Present)
Senior Controls Engineer
Responsibilities included the creation, development, and implementation of multiple PLC/ HMI/
Servo application programs for the installation of manufacturing equipment. Designed electrical
schematics for different packaging, material handling, building material and conveyor systems
ensuring project completion both on time and within budget.
• Supervised $3MM Web Van project from initialization to completion; assisted in project design,
Selected
developed timeline, hired contractors, ordered material, and generated regular reports tracking project
Highlights:
progress to upper level management. Project consisted of conveying system with 200+ conveyors.
• Managed $2MM conveying system for carpet manufacturer. Developed ControlLogix program, RS
View ME and designed electrical schematics allowing for 100+ conveyors using bar code scanners,
which diverted carpet rolls to various unloading stations. Developed Devicenet program for all remote
devices.
• Developed ControlLogix program and RSView S.E. (Distributed) application for Railroad Winch
application. Developed ControlNet and DeviceNet for all remote devices/rack .Converted manual
process which moved railcars hitched together each full of sugar cane and to be dumped on a conveyor,
where the mill processed the sugar cane.
• Developed ControlLogix and RSView M.E HMI program for Pre-Punch Roll Form system.
Converted relay logic control to automated system. Pre-punch system consisted of an old analog servo
indexer which was converted into a digital servo drive (Ultra 3000). Save company $10,000/month in
scrap cost and downtime. Developed Devicenet program for all remote devices.
• Developed SLC-500 and RSView M.E program and designed electrical schematics for $200K
Needle Assembly machine upgrade Converted existing controls using cams for positioning to a vector
control drive with encoder drive with encoder to increase productivity and reduced machine downtime.
• Assisted in development and commissioning of Pick on Fly Robot system, in which robot picks glass
off moving conveyor and stacks it to a rack.
• Designed electrical schematics and assisted in development of ControlLogix and RSView M.E program
for USG Spacer Placement Gantry System. Gantry consisted of 7 axis servo system which placed a
divider between boards enabling fork truck driver easier access for pick-up and eliminating manual
labor. ControlNet and DeviceNet for all remote devices/rack .
• Modified and reprogrammed ControlLogix and RSView M.E. program on a $7 MM case and sorter
conveyor system consisting of 250+ conveyors to increase plant throughput by 12%. Modified PLC and
Devicenet program for barcode reader misreads. Tuned and adjusted parameters on Powerflex drives on
conveyor system, and modified palletizers program to increase efficiency.
• Developed SLC-500 and HMI program for Veneer system. Worked with mechanical engineering staff
to designed a prototype system where sheets of wood after being shaved are transferred to dryer
in order to eliminate manual labor. Hired contractors, ordered material, and maintain electrical budget.
• Worked with mechanical engineering staff for development of prototype glass stacker. Designed
electrical schematics and developed SLC-500 and PanelView programs for 6 axis glass stacker system,
which unloads glass off moving conveyor and stacks it for robot unloading.
TYCO HEALTHCARE (6/00 – 11/03)
