OBJECTIVE: Efficient and profitable operations management centering on process
engineering, or production management
EXPERIENCE:
R. T. Vanderbilt Company, Inc. – Murray Division
Process Engineer May 1996 to January 2009:
I provided process support for the engineering department and production, including
troubleshooting, mass and energy balances, P & ID reviews, yield improvement, cost
reduction, waste minimization, start-up duties, and documentation control for
Management of Change and Process Safety Management program. I oversaw the
mechanical integrity program for over a year, coordinated the consolidation of three sets
of files to one set used for mechanical integrity, and updated manufacturing procedures to
current PSM standards. I trained and retrained employees in a product train, and did
safety key procedure audits. I completed a six month stint as a production operator in a
2006 lockout of the union personnel – incorporated process improvements resulting in
overall production efficiency and in fewer operators needed to operate the plant. I was
assigned the role as an SAP plant power user. Additionally, I oversaw the warehouse
operations for nine months, with hourly personnel assigned to me, and continued
involvement as the back up to warehouse supervisor. I successfully completed courses on
mechanical integrity and “MP2” maintenance software.
Process Supervisor January 1989 to May 1996:
Supervised and coordinated the efforts of 12 hourly operators in two plant areas covering
ten products. Duties associated with the position included production, shipping and
receiving, raw material scheduling, writing and implementing procedures, and inventory
control. I also modified PLC programming in response to changes needed in the process
and made corrections for problems that arose. I developed this position utilizing process
improvements and successful start-ups and to provide support to the production
superintendent. From 1989 – 1995, was responsible for SARA Title III evaluations,
calculations, and reports. From November '95 to February '97 I also supervised the
warehouse shipping and receiving operation for the chemical plant.
Process Chemical Engineer April 1983 to January 1989
Duties included start-up responsibilities for new products introduced into the plant,
troubleshooting, writing appropriation requests, weekend supervisor, rotating shift
foreman and relief foreman, acting plant buyer, evaluating the process and doing the
process improvement projects. Project management over electrical and PLC/computer
programming and piping installation for major expansion. Also coordinated and
completed a statistical process control course including the production and editing of
training video tapes.
Unemployed – September 1982 to April 1983
Airco Carbide, Division of Airco, Inc.
Plant Engineer November 1980 to September 1982:
I was responsible for capital projects including start-up for the Calvert City plant ($10K-
$520K). I was involved with training and start-up of a $10 million expansion and
technical support to four production areas and the maintenance group. Presented an in-
house start-up seminar to personnel from a sister plant in Louisville, Kentucky. I
supervised a summer intern two consecutive years increasing his duties and
responsibilities each year in conjunction with his talents and growth.
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.
Project Engineer July 1980 to October 1980
I was in charge of capital projects, $20K – $100K, including design, estimation, and
construction in a safety conscious atmosphere, with three projects completed within 10%
of the budget. One project was to review and adapt the design to physically separate one
portion of the plant for independent operation.
Process Engineer July 1979 to July 1980
Provided technical shift coverage during start-up of a large reactor PVC plant producing
both homopolymer and copolymer resins. Initiated process data and indicated probable
causes of reactor downtime and cycle times to reduce excessive time periods. I designed
operational and monitoring programs for the process computer.
Stauffer Chemical Company
Production Engineer May 1975 to July 1979
I provided technical support to Titanium Trichloride production. Worked on pilot plant
trials to full scale production trials; inventory control and production scheduling, start-up
of a $1.5 million expansion, and was production operator during a 5.5 month strike.
