SUMMARY: Medical Director of a PHO and of a managed care provider network with 14 years
experience in network development and management, credentialing,
medical/utilization management, managed care contracting, disease management and
quality/performance improvement with the following highlights:
Co-led with the CEO, the expansion of the PHO from one hospital and ~350
physicians to six hospitals and 650 physicians and of its profitability after
five years of operation.
Implemented a “Physician Advisory Board” and coordinated credentialing,
medical management services and supported network development for the
22 hospital, 1200 physician managed care network encompassing Northeast
Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina
Developed a CVO (credentialing verification organization) to support
facility’s credentialing verification processes and facilitate physicians’
response to payer credentialing requirements
Implemented of a ‘physician advisor’ program to serve as a liaison between
health system case managers & social workers, attending physicians,
patients and payers with a positive impact on length of stays & payment
denials
Implemented a severity/risk-adjusted profiling program to provide
physicians with comparative peer data on their clinical practice performance
as a tool to identify potential areas for quality and efficiency improvements
Implemented and direct an outpatient CHF (congestive heart failure) disease
management program which has reduced CHF admissions by 50%
Leading the development and implementation of a clinical integration model
College of Medicine faculty with 26 years experience in teaching & clinical activity,
and 14 years experience as a Director of residency training with progressive
organizational management and leadership experience and success:
Expanded the residency from twelve to eighteen residents
Expanded faculty from three to five
Revised recruiting to consistently fill available positions with US graduates
Increased financial stability of the program through growth in clinical and
grant revenue
Initiated evidence-based medicine component of curriculum
