Manufacturing & HSE Engineer, Thermal Media Division 2006-
2009
Led Manufacturing Engineering and HSE projects in two coating work centers (solvent/poly co-
extrusion) and two converting/packaging work centers.
• As Commissioner Manager and technical interface, directed high-risk yearlong project relocating a single
sourced product for worldwide customer base during peak production season. Wrote and implemented
process/product test plans for work center startup and accreditation. Led equipment layout, material
handling and manpower team. Managed cross-functional team of Construction, Fabrication,
Engineering and production staff in the planning and implementation of inventory build and facility
move. Process was dismantled, reassembled in another location, commissioned and product
accreditation in 75 days.
Result: Received award for dramatically exceeding expectations for timeline and cost goals.
• Thermal Media Product/Corona Discharge Treatment development work-led manufacturing and product
development team to understand and improve product performance issue. Wrote pilot scale and
production scale test plans for equipment performance understanding, product yield and product testing.
Result: Implemented process verification and SPC product control limits.
• Guided operations team in writing shop floor test plans and instructions for successful commercialization of
two consumer products with unique manufacturing technologies meeting both timeline and cost goals.
• Wrote design engineering requirements for gravure coating station and as commissioning manager
followed-up through equipment start-up and product launch. Designed coating station layout to simplify
equipment and operator layout. Result: Coating station available six weeks ahead of schedule allowing
early product launch and capitol cost savings over $100K.
• Ran team to coordinate production, product experiments and maintenance/project work.
• Wrote design engineering and requirements for material handling process.
Result: Reduction of crew size by 20% and enabling recycling of material.
• Developed and implemented proactive safety behavior program.
Result: In 2008, both OSHA reportable and over all safety related incidents decreased by 50%.

Maintenance Supervisor, Rochester Paper Flow (RPF) 2005-
2006
Managed 37 skilled trades in two buildings for 24/7-day Resin Extrusion Coating Operation. Bulk of
this six-month assignment was to manage the closing down of these operations due to business
conditions.
• Directed the conversion of a two/three day shift preventative maintenance equipment change to an around
the clock operation utilizing existing skill sets. Each event increased production capacity by 24 hours.
• Reduced by 50% Trades backlog of work by reorganizing and implementing more structured planned work
by focusing on skills available versus work list.
Operations Supervisor, Paper Mill, (RPF) 2003-
2005
Managed 38 people covering 24/7-day operation with two shift crews and a building services crew for
highly automated chemical, mechanical and electrical production area.
• Maintained aggressive production schedule, safety, cost and quality goals during months after the
announcement of closing down Paper Mill due to business conditions. Leadership team recognized by
management for exceeding expectations during closure process.
• Led operations team in developing alternate production schedule based on product demand.
Result: Savings over $500K exceeded management expectations; Implemented skip days,
overtime
reduced by 40%, 50% drop in absenteeism by enforcing corporate policies.
• Coached team in Shutdown Management tools: Job Jar Program, Square Starts Kaizen and Operator
Support for maintenance days which reduced outside labor costs for maintenance by over $40K.
• Led Recovered Fiber Kaizen, which resulted in a 2% increase, in use of recovered fiber. Wrote shop floor
instructions to execute this project. Result: avoiding over $100K of virgin pulp and cull rolls.
• Implemented proactive safety program and low-level safety reviews to move operations to a new level of
safety awareness. Result: Improvements of 70% in safety incidents and 25% in environmental
incidents
• Using lean manufacturing expertise implemented successful Morning Market, 5S, Dashboard, Standard
Work audits and weekly management Gemba.
Maintenance Supervisor, Color Paper Sensitizing (RPF) 2000-
2003
Dual role as Maintenance Supervisor and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) Program Manager.
Managed 32 skilled trades’ for 24/7-day operation and handled demand, predictive, preventative
maintenance and small capital.
• Managed an annual budget of $3.4M with 10% productivity each year.
• Led Total Productive Maintenance /autonomous maintenance program. Implemented a clean/inspect
program, visual factory lubrication guidelines for the operators, daily equipment and 5S checklists.
• Black Belt Project: Led and implemented program strategy and design requirements for shop floor cross-
functional team for OEE program. Result: improved equipment reliability (MTBF) by 30% and
generated cost savings of $350K per year.
• Implemented Maintenance Excellence program across maintenance/technical staff. Result: Backlog of
work down 50%, budget under runs of 20% for 2002 & 2003 on materials and labor.
