SKILLS /PROFESSIONCAL EXPERIENCE:
Ph. D Research Experience:
• Participated in preparation of proposal for research project entitled: “ Copolymerized Ionic Liquid
membranes for CO2 Removal from Gasified Coal” and Obtained Funding for $346,338 from Ohio
Coal Development Office (OCDO ID # AY07-08) in May 2007.
• Science project: “Synthesis of Diamino Room Temperature Ionic Liquids for Polyimide Reaction”.
NMR, Mass-Spectrometry, GC-MS and HPLC were used to verify the structure of synthesized
molecules.
• Science project: “Gas Transport in Supported Ionic Liquids Membranes”. Study on the gas
permeation/sorption properties in supported ionic liquids membranes and found the CO2 cross-
linking phenomena in highly CO2 soluble ionic liquids. Two permeation cells and three sorption
cells were built to measure the solubility and permeability properties.
• Science project: “Novel Copolymerized Ionic Liquid Based Polymeric Membranes for Removal of
CO2 from Gasified Coal”. Synthesizing new polyimide materials for gas separation membrane
which capable of Gasification process (250 C, 150Psi). A series of methods including GPC, FTIR,
DMA, TGA, INSTRON rheometer, Density column, Surface tension measurement and DSC were
used to characterization the physical chemical properties of these new materials.
• Science project: “Water Effect on Gas Permeation in Copolymerized Ionic Liquid Based Polymeric
Membranes”. Studying the water effect in affiliating CO2 reacting with amine group of the
polymeric membrane so that accelerating the CO2 permeation. A GC was used to detect the CO2
concentration in Gas mixtures in feed and permeate side. MathCAD, ChemCAD & ChemDraw
were used to design the equipment and analyze the data.
M. S. Research Experience:
• Science project: “Simulating the Sorption and Desorption of Penetrants in Dense Polymeric
membranes”. Modeling and simulating the active sorption/desorption process using Flory-
Huggins theory and linear viscoelastic theory. The model is used to calculate various
diffusions (Fickian diffusion, and non-Fickian diffusion) of ethanol in polyphthalazine
ether sulfone (PPES), and polyphthalazine ether sulfone ketone (PPESK) membranes at
293.15, 298.15, and 303.15 K. MATLAB and FORTRAN were used to do the simulation.
