EXPERIENCE
Resodyn: Senior Material Engineer (Butte, MT 7/09 to present)
• Working in think tank environment to solve SBIR funded programs.
• Presently working on advanced coating effects.
Consultant (5/09 to 7/09) --- Performed some consultant work.
Johns Manville: Waterville Technical Manager (Waterville, OH 2/07-5/09)
• Formulated additives which bolstered filtration efficiency 1 to 2 MERV ratings.
• Created high dust capacity media that achieved dust holding greater than 100
grams.
• Designed a ceiling facer by adjusting glass fiber ratios opacity.
• Designed a spray process to evenly supply coatings across wide widths.
• Greatly improved the safety of Johns Manville pilot line by leading a team that
put in new safety equipment, and that wrote standard operating procedures, job
safety procedures, and hazard energy control procedures, accompanied by training
documentation.
• Supervised three employees.
Owens Corning (9/96-2/07)
=>Product Developer/Technical Marketing Manager (Granville, OH 4/03-2/07)
• Executed lightning fast (May to July 1st) development of gypsum facers by
finding ways around existing patents, finding toll coaters, buying raw
materials, and provided acrylic/mineral/aqueous formulation detail to a toll
coater.
• Located/scaled-up 4 toll coaters with the help of purchasing and another engineer.
• Assisted in sourcing, specifying, and scaling up a 50+ million dollar coating line.
• Wrote gypsum facer patent application.
Served as interim leader of the Veil Technologies group. Led group of four and
•
reviewed which patent applications to pursue.
=>Senior R&D Engineer (Apeldoorn, Netherlands 1/02 – 4/03)
• International Assignment --- learned basic Dutch.
• Supported on-going ceiling sales with technical servicing of defects, paint issues.
• Consulted in the design of a specialty 3-meter wide wet-lay line in Apeldoorn.
• Wrote several patent applications in the area of decorative-structured veils.
=>Senior R&D Engineer (Granville, OH 6/01 – 12/01)
• Wrote business cases for many early initiatives including cement backerboards,
insulation facers, wood flooring, truck liners, headliners, and others..
• Wrote patent application for cement backerboard work.
=>Senior R&D Decillion Engineer (Granville, OH 6/00 – 6/01) {OC/Geon JV)
• Bonded Twintex (PP/glass) to PVC with a PVC/glass nonwoven compatibilizer.
• Discovered a method to compression mold PVC/glass nonwovens.
• Started patent investigation on right to practice.
• Developed cost structures for Decillion primary and secondary processed grades.
=>Technical Systems Expert/Senior Scientist (Aiken, SC 9/96-6/00)
• Led a team to reduce wrinkle defects resulting in efficiencies increasing by 5%.
• Part of a team that sourced and specified the Danville IKO wet-lay mat line.
• Led a team that improved the stability of a modified urea-formaldehyde binder.
• Resolved many internal mat/roofing issues in a technical service capacity.
Azdel Inc.: Product Development Engineer (Shelby, NC 5/95-9/96)
• Improved QC sampling system which improved material efficiencies over 2%.
• Scaled up short chop fiber products and worked on early headliner SuperLite
development by finding compatibilizing films for bonding purposes.
