Notable accomplishments

Applied all required PCI controls on all legacy billing and order entry systems and implemented a compliant card holder data environment to allow the company to gain PCI compliance.

Consolidated six SAN and NAS systems into one, replaced tape based with disk based backup with remote replication and in-housed Disaster recovery. The project will save $1.2 million over four years.

Upgraded legacy database applications to most recent version of Ingres and Oracle to save $100,000 in annual premium maintenance support.

Implemented VMware ESX to eliminate out of date systems. Over 50 physical systems were replaced with six ESX hosts. This ESX farm has grown to 12 hosts running well over 200 virtual machines.

Migrated VAX applications from a three node Digital VAX cluster to a CHARON-VAX emulated Intel system. Applications were migrated over a weekend with no code changes or recompilation. Annual savings are about $100,000 in maintenance costs and a 7KW reduction in data center power and cooling load.

Successfully reduced the cost of hardware maintenance by 70% over the last 24 months.

Heads up disaster recovery testing. Manages disaster recovery procedures for entire production infrastructure. All tests were 100% successful.

Headed up SSAE16 and PCI data center and system audit testing.

Nov 2000 – November 2007: Senior Systems Administrator, WorkflowOne (formerly Relizon), Dayton, Ohio

Led a team of four system administrators supporting about 75 Sun Solaris servers running a wide variety of applications.

Notable accomplishments

Assisted in the roll out of a large ERP project with Oracle E-business Suite, Oracle RAC and Sun Cluster. Duties include overseeing the procurement of Sun hardware (24 systems) and installation and administration of all Sun systems.

Headed up Disaster recovery testing for Sun Solaris systems. Prepared Disaster recovery procedures for 17 servers and participated in Disaster recovery tests for 6 years. All tests were 100% successful.

Moved six racks of customer facing computer equipment from a co-location facility to our corporate data center over a weekend. Annual savings is about $400,000 in collocation costs.

Consolidated four small data centers into our corporate data center reducing overhead costs and simplifying

management.

Oct 1982 – Nov 2000 VMS Systems Administrator and Consultant

Worked for five different companies and consulting firms in St. Louis MO and southwest OH doing OpenVMS and VAX/VMS system administration. Authored and taught two VAX/VMS command language and management classes. Also managed the career and training paths for 50 consultants.
