Creative Strategist/ Senior Copywriter
A freelance relationship grew into a full time position when I was recruited to come on
board as the lone creative strategist and senior writer for this 20-person agency.
Responsible for all clients’ creative strategy, concepts and copy including web, print,
collateral, television, radio, outdoor, P.O.P. Also direct broadcast production. Clients
include Rocky Mountain Log Homes, Kapalua Resort, Gallatin Preserve, Mountain West
Bank, First Security Bank, Brighton Ski Resort, Stafford Fitness, SnowBowl Ski Resort,
The Stock Farm Club, Clear Creek Tahoe, Forrester’s Big Horn River Resort, Missoula
Osprey Baseball and others. Helped establish and drive the agency’s reputation for
unexpected creative, exceptional results and strong performance in all award programs.

Director of Communications, Foundation; August 2005-June 2008
Hired as publications editor, promoted to Director position for an organization that saw
branding as something done to a letterhead rather than a position held in the minds of
audience. Communication tools were scattered and without common messages, theme or
continuity. Introduced strategic planning to position the organization for a successful
$100 million fundraising campaign and translating the marketing objectives into
integrated support materials. Other responsibilities included communications plans and
actions, budget, development and implementation of internal and external marketing
communications programs and materials including web site, annual report, collateral,
communication tool kits, direct response campaigns and more. Resigned to accept a
position with Spiker Communications.
University of Arizona/The Arizona Cancer Center
Consultant and Publications Manager; April 2003-Aug. 2005
When my freelance work won results and awards (including a Silver Quill from the
International Association of Business Communicators), I was asked to take on the
additional responsibility for developing and producing marketing communication
programs and materials for: 1) internal and external communications (newsletters,
magazines, web site); 2) education and outreach (training and teaching programs for
adults and youth); 3) marketing communications (publicity and advertising materials); 4)
developmental and fundraising support programs and collateral. Resigned to accept a
position with Montana State University.

Served a wide range of clients in the areas of organizational and individual development,
marketing plans, organizational and individual goal setting, creative strategy and copy
writing. Contributions include strategic planning, visioning workshops, marketing and
communications plans; concepting, writing and developing communication, advertising
and marketing presentations, programs and materials; creating articles and white papers

Responsible for creating, developing and producing marketing plans and creative
materials for a variety of clients in the business-to-business, outdoor, health care and
manufacturing markets. Clients included InFisherman Magazine, Crestliner Boats,
Berkley Fishing, Arctic Cat, Sterns, RAVE Sports, Lindy Little Joe, St. Joseph’s Medical
Center, Falls Plow, Hunt Technologies and others. Resigned to give full attention to
completing an MA Degree.

Marketing Director; Sept. 1989- August 1990
Responsible for planning, implementing and overseeing development of marketing
communications programs and materials for the seafood division of this international
corporation. Duties included responsibility for marketing program content and creative
material development including ads, direct mail, retail and food service support materials.
Resigned when recruited by Nelson Graphic Design.
Ovation Marketing, LaCrosse, WI
Creative Director, March 1988- Sept. 1989
Responsible for creative product and staff at this direct response advertising agency.
Created and produced print, television, radio and direct mail advertising materials for
clients including Company Store, Cooking Light magazine, Country America magazine,
Tilley Endurables, Cat's Pajamas (earned a national award for copywriting), Inland
Labels, Walnut Acres, others. Served both consumer and business-to-business markets.
Resigned to accept position with International Multifoods.

Responsible for agency's creative product and staff. Hired, directed, developed people;
led development of all creative products for a variety of health care, financial, other
clients. Regularly honored by receiving various trade awards for creative excellence.
Resigned to relocate and accept position with Ovation Marketing.

Personal Profile
Married with five children. I’m trained and certified as a first responder, emergency
medical service provider. My family and I enjoy camping, canoeing, hiking, skiing,
weekend adventures, gardening, horses and most other outdoor activities. Volunteer and
community support activities and organizations have included Eagle Mount adaptive ski
instructor, area food banks and other non-profits. Also served as a hospice counselor
supporting patients, families and caregivers. I’ve led multi-day retreats as well as
workshops, seminars and speaking engagements on leadership, organizational and
personal development.
