systems. Cellular sy stems were experien cing too m any dropped calls. Developed a mean s for the sy stem

to automatically recover a portion of th ese calls. Ap plied for and was granted U.S. patent. Led to hundreds

of million s in add ed revenue. Awarded Mo torola Patent of the Year.

Avoided lo ss of millio ns by prov ing Motorola did not engage in patent infring ement. Motorola was

being sued by a company for paten t infringem ent. Worked with legal team, su ccessfu lly proving how the

patent should be interpreted to be v alid and showing there was no infringement. Suit ag ain st Mo torola was

dropped, saving million s. Honored with Patent of th e Year award by Motoro la for defensive contribu tio ns

of intellectual property.

Provided technical support and tra ining on Motorola’s new digita l cellular sy stem. New d igital

cellular sy stem being developed was very comp lex. Sales and m arketing personnel need ed a deep er

background and understand ing of applicable techn ical issues. Hand-pick ed to conduct training sessions in

Europe and Asia. Earned praise from virtu ally all personnel in exp laining th e whole system, not just

individual parts. Led to significant improvemen ts in sales and marketing communications with custo mers.

Tra nsferred to technical orga nizatio n do ing system architecture wo rk, beca me principal a dvisor to

VP of unit. VP of unit doing sy stem architecture fo r an all IP cellular network was pu shing so lution s from

unit that needed more ev aluations prior to release. Shared techn ical concern s with VP, proving th e need for

further research on these solutions. VP had lack ed techn ical expertise to kno w when solution s were

acceptable and complete. Becam e Ch ief Technolo gist for VP, advising on both technical and person nel

issues.

Repaired digita l switch for the Austrian wireless network in Vienna. Dig ital switch for wireless

network in Vienna went down. Talked technician in Vienna through a manual switching to th e redundant

unit. Superiors at Motorola felt switch had been down too long and h ardware need ed to b e replaced.

Traveled to Vienna, replaced hard ware, and switch was up and running immediately, with m inimal

downtim e.

Develo ped three-yea r plan for a dva nced technology organization at Moto rola. Created plan for

organization encompassing projects to undertak e, personnel need ed and costs involved. Worked clo sely

with corporate research in developing plan, as this unit would be providing related work on projects.

Independent Co nsultant 2006 to present. I have been self-emp loyed as a techn ical con sultant sin ce

leaving Mo torola. Much of my work has been with Law firm’s in the area of evalu ation of IPR. I acted as a

subject matter expert in pre-trial litigation for a clien t. I was part of a team th at performed ev aluation of an

IPR portfolio for a clien t of a different law firm.

Senior Director, Technical Staff, Motorola, Network s Bu sin ess Div ision, 1998 to 2006. Lead

Technologist for the Network Advan ced Technolo gy organization with in Mo torola Network s bu siness.

Identified projects to provide differentiation, increase cu stom er value, standardize strategy and offer

network alternatives. Expand ed technical product p ortfolio with softswitch. Part of Network Architectu re

Team th at created IP Network with specialized supp ort for mobile u sers.

Sr. Technologist, Fello w of the Technical Staff, Motorola, GSM System s Division, 1987 to 199 8.

Provided original technical direction and system s engineering for GSM (Global System for Mobile

Commun ications) Radio Access Network (RAN). Designed original single dig ital sh elf which provid ed the

BTS-Base Station Transceiver Site (includ ing baseband hopping support), BSC-Base Station Contro ller,

and XCDR-remote Transcoder network elements.

The shelf wh ich is still the Motoro la GSM BSC b ecame the iDEN BSC and th e CDMA XCDR. Prov id ed

technical mark eting for the n ew cellu lar system.

Earlier Career: Joined Motorola in th e EMX Switch Group. Design ed the orig inal switch ing portion of

EMX 500 and RSU (remote Switch Unit). These were the first Digital switch products in Motorola.

Con sulted on Fault Tolerant Processor design.
