Saint-Gobain PPL

May 2005 to August 2006
As a Manufacturing Engineer at Saint-Gobain I am responsible for process flow
maintenance and improvement. Process Engineer for All plant production with direct
focus on Paint department and Lay-up assembly areas. It is my duty to be the liaison
between Research and design engineering department and the shop work force creating
the necessary tools to ensure first time quality. Work instructions, Area Layout, cost
reduction and Quality are a few key areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities include:
LDM – Lean daily management meetings, Product review, Material disposition, Vendor
audits, Work order Traveler, internal inspection and audits.
Design for manufacturability is a key to the success ratio to ensure lean product flow.
Capital justifications, Equipment procurement, and process improvements.
MOC (Methods of change) Coordinator: Management process to oversee all elements of
Capital approved projects.
PIP (Profit improvement program) Analysis and reporting from capital machine
procurements.
Variance team member: review and analysis of product variances.
Kaizen team and Six Sigma team member, HSE team member
Notable events:
Prior to my hiring a preexisting Six Sigma project was held on the Paint department.
This event was yielding little favorable results and the company was entertaining out
sourcing the entire operation. Once inserted into the team it became apparent to me the
team’s analysis was flawed. Conducting research and presenting the group with a new
analysis that targeted missing areas of improvement. Once implemented the Paint
department has went on to become the lowest reworked area of the plant.
HSE: Health and safety changes.
Procurement of 3 lift tables to ensure ergonomic work and aid in production times.
Automated Packaging Systems Inc.

APS offers a wide range of bagging and sealing systems from simple tabletop models to
semi and fully automatic systems involving sorting, weighing, counting, conveying,
printing and specially engineered units.
As an Electrical Manufacturing Engineer at APS I am responsible for Form fit and
function. Engineer over Electronic assembly and machine assembly cells. Work
instructions, Layout, cost reduction and Quality are a few key areas of responsibility.
BaaN Configuarator programming & implementation
Project Engineer for Pre-release machinery division
While working under the title of Pre-Release I have successfully integrated 4 product
lines. This takes a project (Machine) from R&D prototype design to repetitive
manufacturing. Using form fit and function time study, time balance and design review
the end result is an efficient cellular flow and repeatable product.
Also required was the integration into the plant for maximum effect. Proactive layout
planning became the key to success.
Cellular Manufacturing layout and implementation
During My time at APS I have been an advocate of constant improvement. We have
done 2 plant restructure and multiple layout changes to improve flow and quality.
Machinery documentation, BOM, MAP, BaaN, Material routing
ECR, ECN, Corrective action, PID (Problem Identification)
Documentation Control procedures
Work instruction, Process check points, In-process inspection
Cost reduction, Part Obsolescence replacement
Through comparison I have obtained better product and cost savings that have improved
both profit and quality.
Vendor certification, Certified Vendor program
Access database (Paperless Non-conforming material program)
Time Study, Cellular Manufacturing, Plant layout
Capital equipment research and justification
Fixture design
Utilization of Company owned tools and software are of my greatest accomplishments.
I have created a paperless rejected material database. Replacing a fallible carbon copy
system this Microsoft access program allows reporting and instant visibility for non-
conforming material.
3d Pro-process work instructions
Using the not used tool inside the 3d model ProEngineer software I was able to
standardize work instructions and pictorially show build steps. Prior to my involvement
my company did not use this and relied on hand written notes and written instruction.
