Dr. Vladimir M. Shkolnikov is Principal Composite Scientist at Concurrent Technologies
Corporation (CTC). He has an extensive experience in research, development, design, and
prototyping of assorted composite and hybrid structural systems for military and civilian
applications.
After his immigration to the U.S. in August 1995, he was involved as a project manager,
principal investigator and/or structural lead in performance of many challenging projects for
the U.S. DOD and other federal agencies. Among those there are:
LCS Waterjet Tunnel Structure, ONR-contract
Thick Plate Weld Study, GDEB-contract
Innovative Metal-to-Composite Joining Technology, Navy/ONR - contract
Advanced Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel, DOE - contract
Innovative Wet Gap Crossing Technology, Army/TARDEC - contract
Landing Craft, Air Caution (LCAC) Composite Ramp, Navy - contract
High-Speed Landing Craft, Utility (LCU) Lighter, Navy/ONR - contract
Composite Range Extension Kit Wing, Air Force - contract
EMI Composite Shelter, Air Force/DTRA - contract
Composite Airdrop Platform, Air Force - contract
Improved Naval Lighterage System (INLS), Navy/NAVFAC - contract
Composite Launch Tube for Submarine Outboard Systems, Navy-contract
Fast Sealift Ship, DARPA-contract, among others.
The primary area of Dr. Shkolnikov expertise and professional activity includes the most critical
components of the structural/material science and engineering: analytical and experimental
research on service behavior, fatigue, and failure, specification of design requirements, criteria,
and allowances, structural optimization, analysis, and design reconciliation, service life
prediction, selection of rational material compositions and manufacturing processes, and
conducting fabrication and testing of prototype and real structures.
Dr. Shkolnikov received his MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture from
The State Marine Technical University and Ph.D. in Structural Mechanics from The Krylov
Research Institute, both in St. Petersburg, Russia. He has authored 50+ inventions and 50+
scientific/technical papers as well as numerous scientific-technical reports and design guidance
in the area of his expertise.
Dr. Shkolnikov is an U.S. citizen and has an interim secret clearance.
