experience
Edina, MN
Senior Chemical Engineer
As chief engineer, I lead a team of seven engineers in the development and
customization of a proprietary anaerobic digestion system that creates a sustainable
form of renewable energy by converting high strength food type waste and ethanol
byproducts to a carbon neutral form of methane. This methane is used in the
process plant to significantly reduce utility costs. In a typical corn ethanol plant, use
of our product can reduce methane use by 60% and improve the operational
profitability by $0.60/gallon of ethanol.
I am the lead technical person in charge of all engineering and design for the
company. My role includes designing all process components. I work with my team
to create detailed PID drawings, oversee mechanical engineers in detailed product
layouts, approve all specifications for work done by outside contractors, make,
oversee and review all calculations. My team selects components, we select and
determine placement of controls, specify the HMI interface design. I oversee and
review heat and mass balances for an integrated overall product design. A typical
system is $5-30 MM
I determine the overall system costs, including costs of inputs and outputs, create
profitability models, work with customers to customize our product to meet specific
requirements, and interface with other engineers to effect a seamless interface into
the customer’s facility.
In tandem with my engineering team, oversee operational testing of two trailer
mounted pilot demonstration units to test specific customer substrates for energy
conversion potential. I evaluate data collected in the field and laboratory analytical
data to calculate the energy conversion potential, quantity and value of residuals,
compare quantities of discharge materials to environmental permits. I size and
determine capital and operational costs of residual processing equipment.
Coauthor of three patents.

Arden Engineering
Arden Hills, MN
Senior Chemical Engineer
Co-Founder of an environmental consulting firm founded with a single partner, and
eventually grew to a ten person consulting firm.
Performed environmental consulting, primarily designing process systems for
ground water cleanups and environmental assessment surveys.
Custom designed software using visual basic to operate and remotely manage
these systems.
Created proposals, marketed, developed and worked with customers to create
successful solutions to potential environmental liability issues.
Oversaw and managed a diverse group of consulting engineers to accomplish a
wide variety of individual projects.
Managed budgeting and cash flow to maintain a healthy small business.
April 1992 - March 1994
Delta Environmental
Arden Hills, MN
Senior Chemical Engineer
Created designs and managed the installation of ground water cleanup systems, for
a 200 person environmental consulting firm.
Prepared progress reports on environmental cleanup and monitoring systems.
Assisted sales in the proposal process.
Assisted in the technical development of the engineering staff
October 1989 - April 1992
FSI International
Chaska, MN
Senior Chemical Engineer
Oversaw a technical staff of drafting/design personnel in the creation of chemical
handling systems for hazardous chemicals used in the semiconductor industry.
Created specifications for and performed functional testing of customized software
to operate the systems, and software to supervise these systems.
Oversaw the creation of customer specific operations, maintenance and training
manuals.
Oversaw installation personnel in the successful installation and start up of these
highly customized multi-million dollar systems.
Worked directly with the customer to meet customers’ job specific requirements,
and to meet customers’ expectations.
Assisted sales in the creation of proposals, working with the customer to determine
pre-sale requirements, determine cost and profitability of custom jobs, and
development of installation timelines.

Graco Inc.
Minneapolis, MN
Design Engineer
Designed pumps for a company that specializes in fluid handling equipment.
Received a patent on an all plastic diaphragm pump. This style of pump was
created by me, and was the first in a line of diaphragm pumps that is one of the
company’s more popular items. It was also the first all plastic pump marketed by the
company. Over 100,000 pumps of this style have been sold.
