Armstrong World Industries, Inc., a global leader in the design and manufacture of floors, ceilings and cabinets.

We are executed the Data Archiving project for Materials Management, Sales & Distribution, Financial and costing

modules. Armstrong had gone live SAP in 1996 and the high volume of data growth was a major concern faced by

the SAP Program management. The total data base size in the Production environment was around 2.1 TB with an

average monthly growth of 34 GB. At the time of data archiving Project was initiated, there were as many as 248

Plants, 160 Company codes, 23 Purchasing Organizations & 37 sales Organizations. In terms of the actual data

volumes, there were about 16 million FI documents, 22 million material documents, 47 million sales documents.

Responsibilities: MM

• Archived three MM objects i.e. MM_EBAN, MM_EKKO & MM_MATBEL

• Volume / Performance testing of the selected archiving objects.

• Applied of OSS notes to enhance the selection criteria of some archiving objects.

• Setup IXOS connectivity with SAP R/3 so that the archived files in SAP would be automatically stored on

worm platters in IXOS. Archived 160 GB (14 million documents) from the SAP database.

• Helped the client to come up with a retention strategy for all the archiving object. Implemented the

Archive Information system (AIS) for faster access to archived data.

• Archive enables some regularly used SAP transaction.

• Configured stock transfer (STO) parameters for plant-to-plant transfers.

• Configured Message types for PO, RFQ, and Scheduling Agreement documents.

• Configured Inventory Management Parameters for all goods movements like goods receipts, goods issues,

reservations, GR for blocked stock, goods returns.

• Worked on valuation categories, types and classes for material valuation and account assignment.

• Configured physical inventory by cycle counting method as per the type of the materials and the frequency

of cycle counting desired by the client (Annual, Quarterly and Monthly).
