CAREER SUMMARY

Experienced manufacturing manager with 22 years in face brick and paver

industry with knowledge in daily production requirements, controlling cost

to operate, strong commitment to team environment, mining and stock pile

process, grinding operations. Specific areas of expertise include machine

efficiencies, solid fuel and gas fired kilns operations, product and

texture development. Industrial Mechanic background of 15 plus years in all

manufacturing aspects on various equipment with experience in pneumatics,

hydraulics, PLC's, HMI, electrical with 3 phase, mechanical and welding.

1986 - 1987 - Rack loader, Machine Operator

Entry level position responsible for packaging individual brick into

shipping cube, required production quotas to be met, moved into machine

operator role after 6 months on automated packaging machine.

1987 - 1993 - Maintenance Technician

Responsible for maintaining, repairing, trouble shooting, lubrication, PM

inspections to Kilns, dryers, car moving equipment, extrusion machines,

setting equipment, packaging machines, air compressors, screw conveyors,

belt conveyors, gear boxes, variable frequency drives, PLC's, programmable

controllers, flow meters, material prep equipment.

1993 - 1998 - Promoted to Maintenance Team Leader

Responsible for a 6 man team of Maintenance Techs doing major rebuild and

repair on plant equipment after production hours. Worked with vendors to

procure repair parts as needed and to propose upgrades for equipment.

Responsible for rebuilding pumps, cylinders, and valves and related process

equipment. On call 24-7 for equipment failures.

1998 - 2003 - Promoted to Kiln Supervisor

Responsible for 4 Kilns producing 170 million brick/year using solid fuels

and natural gas. I had a team of 16 direct reports working a 24-7

schedule. Responsible for the personnel activities (performance

evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and recommendations for

terminations) Worked closely with other departments such as: QC, Plant

Engineering, Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D.

Responsible for reducing natural gas consumption by 150 btu's/1000 by

changing firing process while maintaining quality, also improved consistent

quality recovery by 2.5%. Worked on Capital Project to upgrade Kiln

Supervisory software and hardware to replace existing system that failed in

Y2K.

2003 - 2007 - Promoted to Plant Manager - Madison, NC

Responsible for plant operations producing 105 million brick/year. Lead a

team of 4 Supervisor's with 68 employee's operating a 7 day schedule.

Preformed extensive testing on extrusion lines to increase void and product

recovery, successfully achieving void increase from 23% to 26%, recovery

from 95% to 98.5% consistently. Responsible for Capital Project to remove

Monorail packaging machine and install Automated Dehacker packaging machine

using robotics and first Ethernet IP control on machine of this type.

Worked with machinery to increase OEE from 40% to mid 60's and above on

setting and packaging machines. Helped to implement 5'S, TPM and Lean

manufacturing throughout the plant, used RS Metrics data collections in

Millroom equipment to study efficiencies and breakdown patterns to

determine areas for improvement. Involved with Capital Project to convert

gas fired kiln to solid fuel firing and material unloading and handling

system. Worked closely with R&D on new color and texture development.

Implemented data collection process for material coloring and coating

process to determine cost for all products to determine feasibility on

product line, due to success, collection process was implemented

companywide 6 months later. Responsible for the personnel activities

(performance evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and

terminations) Worked closely with other departments such as: QC, Plant

Engineering, Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D,

Sales.

Responsible for implementing SOP for operating Dry Lime Adsorber used for

emission controls on Kiln exhaust stacks and reporting to State EPA.

Experience using Allen Bradley RS Logix, RS 500, panel builder 32 to

troubleshoot and load PLC programs for equipment and HMI.

2007 - 2008 - Transferred to Fairmount, GA as Plant Manager

Responsible for plant operations producing 145 million brick/year. Lead a

team of 10 Supervisor's with 75 employee's operating a 7 day schedule.

Preformed extensive testing on extrusion lines to increase void,

successfully achieving void increase from 18% to 26%. Responsible for

inventory control on repair parts and raw materials to get parts on

consignment as well as reducing parts cost, was able to reduce number of

vendors from 35 down to 10 while maintaining same supply.

Most recent Capital Project involved assembling various components to build

a bulk sand handling and transfer system to reduce dust in the process and

simplify an existing high maintenance system. Standardized the die use in

the Extrusion process while reducing cost for wear parts associated with

it. Responsible for the raw material mining process and scheduling of

mining practices. Responsible for the personnel activities (performance

evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations) Worked

closely with all departments such as: QC, Samples, Plant Engineering,

Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D, Sales.

Involved with studies and testing to find alternative fuel sources.

7/2008 - 6/2009 - Unemployed

7/2009 - Present - Uniboard USA Moncure, NC

Maintenance Technician responsible for repairing and maintaining production

equipment for manufacturing of (MDF) Medium Density Fiberboard used in the

making of Laminate flooring and furniture.
