industry with knowledge in daily production requirements, controlling cost
to operate, strong commitment to team environment, mining and stock pile
process, grinding operations. Specific areas of expertise include machine
efficiencies, solid fuel and gas fired kilns operations, product and
texture development. Industrial Mechanic background of 15 plus years in all
manufacturing aspects on various equipment with experience in pneumatics,
hydraulics, PLC's, HMI, electrical with 3 phase, mechanical and welding.
Pine Hall Brick 1986 - 2008 (www.pinehallbrick.com)
1986 - 1987 - Rack loader, Machine Operator
Entry level position responsible for packaging individual brick into
shipping cube, required production quotas to be met, moved into machine
operator role after 6 months on automated packaging machine.
1987 - 1993 - Maintenance Technician
Responsible for maintaining, repairing, trouble shooting, lubrication, PM
inspections to Kilns, dryers, car moving equipment, extrusion machines,
setting equipment, packaging machines, air compressors, screw conveyors,
belt conveyors, gear boxes, variable frequency drives, PLC's, programmable
controllers, flow meters, material prep equipment.
1993 - 1998 - Promoted to Maintenance Team Leader
Responsible for a 6 man team of Maintenance Techs doing major rebuild and
repair on plant equipment after production hours. Worked with vendors to
procure repair parts as needed and to propose upgrades for equipment.
Responsible for rebuilding pumps, cylinders, and valves and related process
equipment. On call 24-7 for equipment failures.
1998 - 2003 - Promoted to Kiln Supervisor
Responsible for 4 Kilns producing 170 million brick/year using solid fuels
and natural gas. I had a team of 16 direct reports working a 24-7
schedule. Responsible for the personnel activities (performance
evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and recommendations for
terminations) Worked closely with other departments such as: QC, Plant
Engineering, Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D.
Responsible for reducing natural gas consumption by 150 btu's/1000 by
changing firing process while maintaining quality, also improved consistent
quality recovery by 2.5%. Worked on Capital Project to upgrade Kiln
Supervisory software and hardware to replace existing system that failed in
Y2K.
2003 - 2007 - Promoted to Plant Manager - Madison, NC
Responsible for plant operations producing 105 million brick/year. Lead a
team of 4 Supervisor's with 68 employee's operating a 7 day schedule.
Preformed extensive testing on extrusion lines to increase void and product
recovery, successfully achieving void increase from 23% to 26%, recovery
from 95% to 98.5% consistently. Responsible for Capital Project to remove
Monorail packaging machine and install Automated Dehacker packaging machine
using robotics and first Ethernet IP control on machine of this type.
Worked with machinery to increase OEE from 40% to mid 60's and above on
setting and packaging machines. Helped to implement 5'S, TPM and Lean
manufacturing throughout the plant, used RS Metrics data collections in
Millroom equipment to study efficiencies and breakdown patterns to
determine areas for improvement. Involved with Capital Project to convert
gas fired kiln to solid fuel firing and material unloading and handling
system. Worked closely with R&D on new color and texture development.
Implemented data collection process for material coloring and coating
process to determine cost for all products to determine feasibility on
product line, due to success, collection process was implemented
companywide 6 months later. Responsible for the personnel activities
(performance evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and
terminations) Worked closely with other departments such as: QC, Plant
Engineering, Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D,
Sales.
Responsible for implementing SOP for operating Dry Lime Adsorber used for
emission controls on Kiln exhaust stacks and reporting to State EPA.
Experience using Allen Bradley RS Logix, RS 500, panel builder 32 to
troubleshoot and load PLC programs for equipment and HMI.
2007 - 2008 - Transferred to Fairmount, GA as Plant Manager
Responsible for plant operations producing 145 million brick/year. Lead a
team of 10 Supervisor's with 75 employee's operating a 7 day schedule.
Preformed extensive testing on extrusion lines to increase void,
successfully achieving void increase from 18% to 26%. Responsible for
inventory control on repair parts and raw materials to get parts on
consignment as well as reducing parts cost, was able to reduce number of
vendors from 35 down to 10 while maintaining same supply.
Most recent Capital Project involved assembling various components to build
a bulk sand handling and transfer system to reduce dust in the process and
simplify an existing high maintenance system. Standardized the die use in
the Extrusion process while reducing cost for wear parts associated with
it. Responsible for the raw material mining process and scheduling of
mining practices. Responsible for the personnel activities (performance
evaluations, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations) Worked
closely with all departments such as: QC, Samples, Plant Engineering,
Materials Management, Shipping and Receiving, Safety, HR, R&D, Sales.
