RESEARCH EXPERIENCES

Formulation Processing and Process Development

Conventional fluid bed coating/encapsulation of fine particles (<20 m m) to control release

developed a new technique to coat fine particles in a wurster fluidized bed

accomplished uniform particle coating without serious agglomeration

performed in vitro dissolution study and obtained extended release profile of coated particles

applied SEM, EDX, FTIR, PSD, Thermal Analysis and dissolution test to characterize coated particles

Conventional fluid bed granulation of fine powders

developed a novel technique to granulate fine particles in a wurster fluidized bed

achieved desired size/size distribution of granules

achieved great flow/compaction properties of final granules

optimized the processes

prepared SOPs and trained cooperative technicians for technique transfer and commercialization

Rotating fluidized bed coating/granulation of fine particles for release control

successfully granulated fine APIs (~50 m m) into bigger granules with desired size distribution

individually coated fine porous particles (~10m m) by polymer film

In situ particle milling and coating in an air jet mill

developed a novel technique to mill and coat particles simultaneously

coated ground particles evenly with discrete nanoparticles or liquid for surface modification

coated ground particles with polymer film for release control

Powder fuctionalization and formulation preparation

altered thermal and electrical conductivity, color, abrasion resistance, compressibility and hydrophilicity

applied dry particle coating and intensive blending to prepare pharmaceutical formulations, contributing to

subsequent dry processing, e.g. dry granulation and direct tableting.

Flowability improvement of fine powders by surface modification (<20 m m)

achieved free flow of surface modified particles

achieved stable fluidization of particles as small as 5 m m
