PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
GENERAL MOTORS, Warren, MI 1993-2009
Global Automotive Manufacturer.
Senior Design Engineer 2002-2009
Responsible for defining the requirements of components and subsystems,
using design best practices, and analytical tools to develop components
and subsystems of the vehicle. Components included Air Induction System
on the medium duty and mid-size trucks. Design and release of front,
rear axles and powertrain mounts for full size sport utility vehicles
(SUV) and front half shafts on the full size SUV.
. Developed air cleaner assembly and the connecting air duct systems for
both gas and diesel engines with and without turbo chargers resulting
in combining a light and medium duty powertrain and improved product
performance.
. Developed powertrain mounts for heavy duty SUV resulting in new six
speed transmission.
. Ensured the air induction system and components met the vehicle
requirements for reliability and dependability resulting in improved
customer satisfaction.
. Prepared CTS (component technical specifications) and SSTS (subsystem
technical specifications) for SUV front and rear axles on full-size
SUVs and secondary air systems on small cars resulting in suppliers
meeting production performance and quality standards.
. Completed SOR (statement of requirement) for front and rear axle
subsystems on full-size SUVs resulting in meeting quality, performance
and cost targets.
. Led technical reviews that resulted in the production release of the
front and rear axles for rear wheel drive trucks resulting in meeting
all quality, production, and cost targets.
. Defined and released math data model that allowed suppliers to develop
production tooling.
. Validated design using analytical tools including finite element
analyses, modal and virtual builds at component level, to ensure
quality requirements are achieved.
. Released component and subsystem parts into the production system that
met production, quality and timing requirements.
. Provide technical support to designers, marketing and sales
departments, suppliers, engineers and other team members throughout
the product development and implementation process.
. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and
equipment to perform engineering tasks.
Design Leader Technical 1999-2002
Responsible for the design, analysis, and release of front and rear axle
components and subsystems.
. Supervised and directed sixteen designers in the completion of
engineering changes that were delegated to the design group on time.
. Led design reviews and directed cross functional teams to ensure that
changes to an axle component would not adversely affect surrounding
components.
. Reviewed static and dynamic clearance requirements with the designer
and design release engineer to ensure quality standards were met.
. Developed required background for design engineers also coached
designers and detailers in job duties and company policies or arrange
for training. Ensuring that all standards were met.
GENERAL MOTORS (continued)
Senior Designer 1993-1999
Responsible for packaging studies, design concepts, assemblies and
layouts for conception through production launch utilizing Unigraphics.
. Acquired extensive knowledge of materials, various forms of heat
treatment, forging casting, powder metals, plastics and process flow
diagrams and various assembly processes to improve product designs.
. Completed design work from conception to production resulting in a
quality product for the customer.
. Confirmed detailed design work using Design stacks and GD&T to ensure
fit, form and function of components.
. Evaluated UG scenario as a valid tool for designers resulting in the
improved ability for designers to use UG scenario as an early analysis
tool.
H&E SERVICES (contracted to General Motors), Saginaw, MI 1986-1993
Engineering and Design Services Supplier.
Designer 1987-1993
Design rear axles and other components for truck and rear wheel drive
cars.
. Designed and analyzed rear driven axle and sub-systems from prototype
to final production.
. Performed Design stacks and GD&T to ensure fit, form and function of
components.
Detailer 1986-1987
Made detail drawings to support the designers and engineers for truck and
car rear suspension.
. Created and maintained four to five detailed production drawings a
week resulting in on time delivery for production components.
ACTION AUTOMOTIVE, Flint, MI 1979-1986
