. Supervised 10-20 management and clerical staff in planning production
and developing schedules for every production unit starting at the
basic oxygen furnace (BOF) through the shipment of a steel coil.
. Created and developed a purchased slab program of buying slabs from
other steel producers, entering them into inventory and maintaining
control until rolling on the hot mill.
. Led a team of five schedulers to install a completely new hot mill
scheduling system (I2), resulting in a reduction of time to create a
hot mill schedule by approximately 50%, reduced the response time to
every changing hot mill scheduling requirements, a lower delay rate on
the hot mill, a reduction of the number of personnel involved with hot
mill scheduling.
. Developed a slab yard training program to cross train personnel on
various slab yard units resulting in having more personnel available
to fill in on a unit that became open on account of a report off or an
un-scheduled turn.
. Developed a strategy for reducing inventory while maintaining
production efficiency.
. Analyzed and corrected production schedules as events dictate.
. Assisted in the installation of an artificial intelligence caster
scheduling system resulting in a reduction of time for creating
schedules by 50%, a reduced response time to ever changing scheduling
problems, increased on-time delivery performance, and reduction in the
number of personnel involved with caster scheduling.
. Developed a program of swapping slabs to older orders increasing on-
time delivery performance by 18%.
. Developed a program of reviewing each BOF and caster schedule reducing
clerical errors and a reduction of BOF chemical diversions by 11%.
