status post surgery. The goal was to educate clients and their families regarding lifestyle
changes, diet, and community resources to prevent illness progression and hospital readmission

10/01 4/04: LPN Perioperative Services Bon Secours Ambulatory Surgery Newport News, VA
Responsible for supervising the fast paced “pre op holding” area of Operating Room. Duties
included constant communication and coordination with OR, Pre op admission and Anesthesia
departments to maintain timely patient flow and surgery prep. Initiated intravenous lines and
administered all pre op antibiotics for adults as well as oral sedatives for pediatric patients.
Performed shaves and scrubs for all orthopedic surgeries, pupil dilation for ophthalmologic
surgery, and assistance to anesthesiologists during epidurals and various nerve blocks.
Maintained patients and their families as relaxed and well informed as possible prior to surgery.
Provided assistance for PACU (Recovery Room) when needed, and accepted rotating on call
nursing assignments as required by Clinical Nurse Manager during evenings and weekends for
emergency surgeries and sedation duties during colonoscopies and esophageal exams.

Primary nurse for both Dr. Anthony Amabile and NowCare Urgent Care Center which were
adjacent to each other and connected by a common hall. Floated daily between both departments
while performing triage, suture assistance and sterile environment during laceration repairs,
spirometry and nebulizer treatments, audiometry booth, school, sports and occupational
physicals, urine drug screens, lab draws, casting and splinting, translation for spanish speaking
clients, and assistance for OB/GYN, Allergy and Podiatry clinics which were held weekly.
Functioned as Charge Nurse every other weekend for the Urgent Care side, and independently
opened and closed the center.
