Director, Application Development

Recruited by the division CIO to drive change within the HR Systems

department, build trust relationships with HR business partners and mature

project delivery; in change management role, administer all facets of

applications development including management of teams responsible for

defining, designing, testing, implementing and operating complex, multi-

tier distributed service-oriented architectures and applications.

Scope of responsibilities include strategic planning; tactical project

management ensuring satisfaction of scope deadline and budgets; activity

management for applications; software and service contract negotiations;

staff recruiting.

Oversee 5 direct reports, 35 staff, and approximately 15 domestic

contractors executing various projects and running applications; ensure

functional quality of applications comprising Human Resources, Learning

o Implementation of Plateau LMS: Led the selection and installation of a

multimillion dollar enterprise wide Learning Management System (Plateau

Systems). Successfully completed technical delivery of all system

components which included both electronic and classroom training

resulting in the reduction of 26 systems and $2.5M in annual cost

savings. System also reduced risk of multimillion dollar fines

associated with non-compliance to regulatory training.

o Implementation of Peoplesoft CRM: Completed rollout of the CRM Helpdesk

module of Peoplesoft allowing for a true shared services function

within HR. Product rollout reduced HR labor costs by 12M per year by

centralizing HR Generalist duties. Higher employee satisfaction was

gained through online access to knowledge base articles. Ensured

delivery of the solution by actively managing issues and engaging

Oracle as an implementation partner

o Major upgrade of ERP: Managed a successful migration of Peoplesoft HCM

from version 8.3 to 8.9. This $600K project removed 20% of product

customizations and was introduced into production on time and on budget

o Strategic Roadmap: Provided 3 year application, infrastructure, and

architecture roadmap for IT to support business initiatives; strategic

plan constantly revisiting as business modifies and changes operating

model. Roadmap include upgrades and module deployments of major ERP,

consolidation of applications to lower total cost of ownership and

reduction of system complexity and risk by elimination of

customizations.

o Business Process Transformation: Completed benchmark studies with

partnership from Accenture and Cedar Crestone on total cost of

ownership of HR system to industry best practice. Participated in

focus groups to identify end user pain points and variance to best

practices. Led resulting RFP for a new talent management suite of

applications which will replace several legacy custom applications

delivering Staffing, Compensation, Development, Performance and

Succession business processes.

refresh of base architecture; Corporate Real Estate software; Support

Initially promoted to lead the Peoplesoft installation, gained increasing

levels of accountability over time with eventual responsibility for the

ongoing support and development of forty global mission critical systems

in the HR, commissions, IT Systems, Billing and portal areas with

accountability for 100 technical resources comprised of onshore and

offshore teams; scope of responsibilities included strategic planning via

roadmap activities; budgets and project management; global IT organization

and activity management; off-shore resource management; due diligence and

management of acquired company IT organizations; IT staff recruiting;

software and service contract negotiations.

o Implementation of company wide ERP: Provided technical leadership on

the January 2001 implementation of Peoplesoft HR/Payroll. This

conversion involved migration of 70,000 employees to one instance of

Peoplesoft converting existing manager and employee self-service

application and development of 85 interfaces.

o Deployed International instance of ERP: Provided technical leadership

on the installation and construction of the International HR instance

of Peoplesoft, ultimately providing manager and employee self service

in later releases. Resolved complex connectivity and labor law issues.

Partnered with the business to design and develop multiple employee

based systems replaced manual paper transactions and saved the

company millions in labor year over year. Awarded the 1998 CIO
