OBJECTIVE:
My goal is to become an excellent woodcrafter, whether the product is fine furniture,
doors, cabinetry, trim work, woodcarving, or canoes. I am determined to find a way to
receive the ongoing training and knowledge I need to excel in this field, thus my objective
is to find employment as a Cabinetmaking Apprentice, or in a position where I will have
the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills in the field of woodworking. I feel so
good when I work with wood! I find the colour and texture of a fine piece of wood to be
unbelievably beautiful.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
• Hands on experience operating various woodworking equipment, including a table
saw, chop saw, compound miter saw, planer, jointer and wood lathe
• General knowledge of wood and the development of woodworking skills gained by
completing various woodworking projects, including a coffee table, side table, spice
rack, outboard motor stand, wooden salad bowl, an epoxy cedar strip canoe and
various woodcarvings
• Hands on experience in wood sanding, surface preparation and the hand
application of dyes, stains and a wood finish
• Hands on experience with project management, including preparation of a budget
and the hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of staff
• Experience in the use and maintenance of most hand tools and power tools related
to woodworking
• Experience and knowledge of basic carpentry
• Woodworking learned at the high school level
• Some experience reading blueprints and construction drawings
• Computer literate with competency in keyboarding skills, WordPerfect, Windows
OS, Microsoft Office, and Geographic Information Systems
• Good working knowledge of mathematics
• Ability to access, analyze and apply knowledge and skills learned from various
related disciplines
• 4 years of Mechanical Drafting taken at the Secondary School level
• Ability to work alone, or within a team environment
• General knowledge of WHMIS and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
their applications
