DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

AS:

STAFF NURSE - provide direct patient care to patients assigned in different shifts, morning,

evening and night. Assists in Ward management and supervision and is directly responsible to the

Section Head.

• Responsible to admit, discharge and transfer patients.

• Maintain personal hygiene and comfort to the patients and provide psychological support.

• Responsible to maintain clean and safe environment and see to the nutritional needs and

feed the patients.

• Perform technical tasks such as preparation and administration of medications, assisting

various medical procedures if required, recording vital signs, tube feedings, give enema,

bowel wash, ECT eye and ear care, collection and sending of specimens.

• Maintain nurses notes and intake and output chart.

• Observe physical and mental change in patient’s condition and record and take necessary

attention and has to report to the concerned authority.

• Take initiative to hold ward meeting with patients and attendants.

• Must show extreme forbearance and tack in dealing with every patient. Must be gentle,

cheerful and must set example of patience.

• Must report immediately all cases of accident, violence, bodily illness, extraordinary

mental symptoms, eruption of the skin, unusually threatening language, sudden

depression of spirits, attempts to abscond, losses of small things.

• Ensure all the time that medicines must be kept under lock and key and must never be

entrusted to the care of the patient.

CLINICAL WARD NURSE:

• To deliver high quality patient care which is clinically effective, evidence based and

appropriate.

• To assess plan, implement and evaluate care a part of collaborative programme of patient

care.

• To participate in integrated governance and risk assessment and its reporting as required.

• To undertake delegated responsibility for senior staff as required.

• Observes and monitors vital signs.

• Provide active intervention to maintain oxygen saturations.

• Administer medicines in accordance with the doctors guidelines.

• Performs intravenous infusion, injection and pain management.

• Provide effective treatment and care in wounds of patients.
