Personal Statement

I am a retired Navy Nurse (LCDR). During my twenty-four years in

the Navy, I was mobilized twice (Kuwait 2004/Germany 2007). I

have extensive experience as a nurse in several areas (Medical-

Surgical, Clinic, PACU, ER, OR, Home Health) and have experience

in preparing clinics for weather disasters (hurricanes, typhoons).

I also have extensive military training. I completed an

Associate's in Medical Practice Management in Nov 2011. I am

looking for a challenging position where I can use this degree

along with my nursing experience and ability to communicate in

Spanish fluently.

Trauma Nurse Registrar (Feb 2012 - Nov 2012)

Assigned to the Data Acquisition Branch. Abstract data from trauma charts

coming from the combat zone (Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait). Search multiple

systems (TMDS, PASBA) for accurate information to be entered into the Joint

Theatre Trauma Registrar. Use nursing skills to determine diagnosis,

injuries, treatments, procedures, labs, tests, blood, fluids, etc. to

ensure accurate data is entered.

ER Registered Nurse (Oct 2009 - Nov

Triage and assess patients. Use multiple nursing skills to provide patient

care (insert IVs, foleys, NG tubes), medication administration, enter

orders and patient assessments into computer system (McKesson), set up for

suture, dressing changes, splints, and provide discharge instructions.

Check crash carts to ensure all equipment is operable and all supplies are

available. Ensure patients and documentation is prepared for transfer

requiring care beyond our capabilities to a higher echelon of care.

of LVN and HH Aides, and discharge from services. Prepared and submitted

OASIS for plan of care and billing. Performed patient assessments,

administered medications, dressing changes (wound vac), collected

specimens, coordinated care with other disciplines (PT, OT, ST), and

reported changes in patient condition and abnormal findings/symptoms to MD.

sailors, soldiers, marines, and airmen arriving from the combat zone (Iraq,

Afghanistan, Kuwait). Prepared for incoming by reviewing information from

the Patient Movement Record. Accountable for assigning and preparing rooms

accordingly. Anticipated and ensured equipment and supplies available.

Ensured patients able to contact family and friends at home upon arrival to

hospital. Prepared wounded for air evacuation to stateside facilities.

Gave report to flight crew.

Officer in Charge (Oct 2004 - Sep

2005)

Assigned as OIC in charge of 3 MD's, 1 PA, 1 Chief, and 10 Enlisted.

Prepared and submitted reports to command staff EMF-Dallas. Effectively

provided to Coalition Forces. Ensured staff instructed on military

regulations and protocols regarding safety, security, patient

care/transport, etc. Supervised Navy and Army personnel during the review

and revision of the camp mass casualty plan.

Assigned to PACU. Assessed, instructed, and prepared patients for surgery.

Reviewed medications, orders, operative consents, and allergies. Started

IVs and administered pre-op medications. Recovered patients. Assessed for

complications: breathing, bleeding, and pain. Reported abnormal VS to

anesthesia/surgeon. Provided safe environment while waking up from

anesthesia. During this employment period, mobilized twice (2004/2007).
