Janesville Acoustics (Contract Position)
Norwalk, Ohio
Maintenance Manager/Controls Engineer February-August, 2011
Supervised plant machine and automation operations in the production of
acoustic noise reduction goods for top motor vehicle manufacturers, e.g.,
GM, Nissan, Ford, Chrysler. Identified production problems and implemented
solutions that improved productivity and product quality, and ultimately
reduced costs. Implemented maintenance prevention program to improve
safety, ensure effective production machine operation and avoid mid-
production downtime. Mentored maintenance personnel and developed training
program that advanced their skills in troubleshooting and developing fixed
solutions to ongoing repetitive problems, and ultimately improved safety
and productivity.
. Removed two leaking hydraulic loaders costing an estimated $150,000 per
year in hydraulic oil and parts, and at least 6 hours of maintenance
time per day. Replaced leaking loaders with two existing spare
conveyors and added one person to feed manually for an annual savings
of $90,000.
. Designed new punch die ring with die inserts to replace existing die
ring damaged due to press misalignment during installation. Trained
maintenance personnel to ensure proper alignment on installation thus
eliminating the problem and realizing a cost savings of $9,000, as well
as the cost of eight days downtime saved by not sending the tool out
for repair.
. Trained maintenance personnel to harden teeth on 3-D die cut cutter
press to eliminate teeth from bending and destroying aluminum mold
which saved 4 to 6 hours of downtime per day.
. Added maintenance ladders on presses to access hydraulics on top of
press thereby improving safety and making it easier to do preventative
and required maintenance.
. Completed KMT water jet high pressure cutter training for rebuilding
60,000 psi water jet intensifiers.

Electrical Engineering as part of a dual program between Terra Community
College and Miami University of Ohio.
American Steel Treating Perrysburg, OH
Plant Engineer
2002-2008
Oversaw all plant manufacturing processes in heat treatment applications
of transmission gears and other parts for major automobile manufacturing
companies. Developed plant layouts and calculated product flow and rates
for new systems. Led engineering and design team through the
manufacturing, installation, start-up, and run off of new material
handling systems. Solved potential problems through continuous
improvement and quality improvement processes based on ongoing systematic
root cause analyses.
. Successfully automated the handling of 45,000 transmission gears per
day through the heat treat processes for new plant saving labor
costs of $450,000 per year for a five year contract.
. Collaborated with vendors and revised preliminary automation system
design to reduce initial cost of project for an additional
$2,000,000 savings.
. Developed accumulation and de-accumulation contingency plans to
maintain high level of production in the event of machine breakdown.
. Modified existing equipment to improve quality of customer parts and
increased profits by $60,000 per year by eliminating the need to
sort foreign materials from customer's product.
. Trained maintenance crew to assess common manufacturing equipment
problems and implement improved preventative maintenance strategies
resulting in reduced machine breakdown.
. Determined mechanisms of scrap generation and developed and
implemented strategies to reduce scrap.
. Conceptualized and designed new material handling systems and
supervised the fabrication and installation of new equipment and
retrofitting of exiting equipment.
. Designed and supervised the installation of new ventilation hoods
and ductwork which improved ventilation and plant air quality.
. Implemented ergonomic improvements for existing labor-intensive jobs
that improved safety, increased production and reduced Workman's
Compensation claims.
. Learned Eddy-Current hardness testing process and implemented 100%
testing of transmission gears for hardness quality.
