Imperial Sugar Company
2011-2012 – Business Unit Leader, Environmental Health and Safety Gramercy, LA.
2008-2010 - Environmental Health and Safety Manager Port Wentworth, GA.
Upon joining Imperial Sugar in 2008, the Gramercy Plant had been issued OSHA 197 citations that included 67
willful violations and the Port Wentworth plant had 324 citations that included 112 willful violations. The scopes
of these penalties were unprecedented in the industry and drew national attention. I participated in a negotiated
settlement with OSHA that kept the Gramercy plant operational and instituted an employee safety plan to protect
employees and contractors at that site. By November 2010, OSHA completed a wall-to-wall inspection of the
Gramercy facilities and confirmed complete compliance with all regulations and praised the safety program I
installed. The policies, equipment, engineering, and teams established at Imperial Sugar have been recognized by
The Chemical Safety Board as a National Leader in combustible dust management. The Port Wentworth facility
underwent a major rebuild following the 2008 explosion and these safety programs were also implemented there.
