Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering
Relevant Courses: Engineering Design, Engineering Mechanics, Strength of
Materials, Design of Machine Elements, Machine Tools and Metrology, Machine
Drawing, Manufacturing Technology, Automotive Engineering.
Relevant Projects
. Bachelor's Dissertation: Studied cavity noises in high speed flows as
a function of aspect ratio, Mach number and angle of inclination of
the cavity with respect to the flow.
. Investigated mixing of fuel and air in high speed flows.
. Developed a Peaucellier mechanism which converts rotary motion to a
straight-line motion, and vice-versa.
. Designed and fabricated a truss to withstand approximately 220
kilograms using 1.5mm diameter members.
SKILLS
. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance inspection and
measurement.
. Experience in using AutoCad and PRO/Engineer to create mechanical 2D
and 3D models for parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies.
. Performed analysis on 3D models with Ansys and Pro/Mechanica
. General metrology experience using calipers, micrometers and
comparators.
. Broad technical knowledge of manufacturing methods like joining
(welding, brazing, soldering, adhesive bonding), machining, stamping,
molding, forming, casting
. Experience with MatLab, Minitab and Maple
. Proficient with Microsoft Office, Project and Visio.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Project Engineer February 2008 - Present
. General duties involve new product design, create product
specifications, review drawings, develop work instructions, DFMEA,
DVP&R and track design objectives/program timing.
. Generated design concepts to develop an advanced diesel fuel
filtration system to meet Tier 4 requirements on common rail
application. Researched materials and manufacturing processes required
for the design. Created 3d models and worked with vendors to procure
components. Successfully validated all components, design requirements
and manufacturing processes.
. Designed and implemented certain modifications on filter systems to
improve reliability, safety, quality and manufacturability and
throughput.
. Supported and coordinated the re-sourcing and validation of filter
system components. The strategic cost cutting program resulted in a
savings of 5 million dollars in 2008.
. Actively involved in validating new products and design or
manufacturing changes on existing products through in-house Design
Verification and Production Validation Programs to ensure products
meet specification, performance, durability and most importantly
satisfy customer requirements and expectations.
. Serves as a liaison to customers and also a key coordinator for
customer's qualification needs including engineering reports, samples,
data and negotiation of qualification requirements. Actively manages
customer notification and approval processes in accordance with TS
procedures on product changes.
. Works closely with the sales team to develop new business in North
America, Europe and China.
. Rapid prototyping of filtration systems for potential new customers by
hearing the voice of the customer.
. Develops packing specifications for all fuel filter models.
University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Buffalo, NY
Fall 2007
. Conducted a Six Sigma project to reduce the number of defectively
molded HP Indigo printer rollers.
. Utilized the concepts of Six Sigma and DMAIC techniques to solve the
problem.
. Minitab was used to study test data.
. Prior knowledge of injection molding techniques helped to provide
technical assistance to setup molds correctly for the rollers.
Nissan, Abu Dhabi, UAE Summer 2005
. Drafted engineered drawings with bills of materials for engine
components.
. Reviewed feasibility of new product design, identified potential
issues, and implemented changes that improved the part's form and
functions.
. Studied the working of engine computer analysis equipment for
efficiently diagnosing engine problems in Nissan cars.
Thermodyne Technologies, Chennai, India Summer
2004
. Studied the design, construction and working of a biomass fired
boiler.
. Worked with a team that designs mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, and
heat transfer components for boilers.
. Researched and analyzed the feasibility of a boiler design proposal.
. Evaluated field installations and provided design recommendations for
boilers to and improve reliability, maintainability and prevent system
malfunctions.
TRAINING
. Completed a Dale Carnegie course on Effective Communication and Human
Relations.
. Successfully completed a fuel systems training on fuel injection pumps
and injectors.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
. Member, Graduate Student Association at the University at Buffalo.
. Member of National Sports Organization at IIT Madras.
