PO Box *****, Baton Rouge, LA ***** 225-***-**** **********@*****.***

Education

PhD, Organic and Organometallic Chemistry, Louisiana State University,

Baton Rouge, LA Aug. 2002-May 2009

Research: Synthesized alpha-methlylene-gamma-butyrolactones derivatives

utilizing the hetero Pauson-Khand reaction/ Creating jasmonic acid and

methyl jasmonate also using the hetero Pauson-Khand cycloaddition

Dissertation: The Syntheses of Methyl Jasmonate and Analogs of Alpha-

Methlylene-Gamma-Butyrolactone utilizing Titanium Mediated

Cyclocarbonylation.

BS, Chemistry, University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., May

2002

Research Interests

To help create products in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry through

the synthesis of small molecules

Research Experience

Graduate Researcher, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Jan. 2003-

May 2009

Advisor: William Crowe, PhD

Developed novel, efficient strategies for the synthesis of molecular

targets of biologically active natural products and their analogs.

Utilized a new Allenic Hetero Pauson-Khand cycloaddition for the

preparation of alpha-methlylene-gamma-butyrolactone structural building

blocks. Supervised an undergraduate student and assisted him with his

research and demonstrated proper laboratory techniques to another student

who was interested in attending graduate school. Developed an alternate

route for the synthesis of jasmonic acid and methyl jasmonate utilizing the

Hetero Pauson-Khand cycloaddition to create a lactone intermediate which

makes this approach novel.

Undergraduate Researcher, University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas,

U.S.V.I. Aug. 2001-May 2002

Advisor: Ralph Isovitsch, PhD

Synthesized organometallic compounds for use as electrochemical sensors

Summer Research Internship, Purdue University, Purdue, IN June 2001-July

2001

Advisor: Natalia Dudareva, PhD

Used RNA-interface to determine if the conversion of benzaldehyde to

benzoic acid in fragrant flowers such as Petunias can be stopped. The

benzaldehyde to benzoic acid conversion was also a small step in an

untheorized chemical pathway from L-phenylalanine to methyl benzoate

Undergraduate and Summer Researcher, University of the Virgin Islands, St.

Croix, USVI Feb. 1998-Aug. 1998

Advisor: Thomas Zimmerman, PhD

Attempted to develop tissue culture media to regenerate Passiflora species,

passion fruit from tendrils and leaf species using various plant growth

regulators

Teaching Experience

Teaching Assistant, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA Aug. 2002-

May 2009

. General Chemistry Laboratory

. Organic Chemistry Laboratory

Prepped students with background information for each experiment.

Proctored quizzes and exams, as well as graded lab reports

Technical Skills

Proficient in the utilization of structural characterization instruments:

. 250 MHz, 300 MHz & 400 MHz NMR, Infrared Spectroscope (IR), all

aspects of fume-hood operations including cannulations, manifold

manipulations and vacuum pump manipulations, and the use of a dry box

and Schlneck glass techniques to handle air- & moisture-sensitive

organometallic compounds and reagents.
