Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, Laurel, MD

Production Manager

Responsible for all production of sticks and cones of Business Unit A (120

employees) in the lean manufacturing (TPM) environment of Dreyer's second

largest ice cream plant, comprised of more than 700 employees. Managed all

employee development and progression through department positions via

coaching and training and delivered Safety, Quality, Cost, Waste, and

Efficiency goals for the department.

. Worked closely with the Quality group and led Focused Improvement team

that delivered 60% reduction in consumer complaints for Drumsticks

surpassing goal of 50%.

. Achieved zero department injuries in the department for 2009 through

rigorous use of the Behavioral Observation System by addressing

several unsafe conditions and work practices with permanent solutions.

One solution was improvement of machine guarding to not allow

interaction with moving parts.

. Led Autonomous Maintenance team through Step 2 and Step 3 in 5 months

by using continuous coaching and engagement with all the employees.

. Increased operating efficiency from 80% to 85% on Drumstick lines

through waste reduction efforts driven through Autonomous Maintenance

Glad Manufacturing Division, Amherst, VA

Forceflex Department Manager 2006 - 2008

Accountable for all production of Forceflex bags (in a 70 employee

department) in the lean manufacturing (TPM) environment of Clorox's second

largest plant, with more than 380 employees. Primary responsibilities

included the development and growth of all employees in the department,

delivering Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and operating efficiency

(OEE) goals for the department.

. Gained thorough knowledge of Blown Film Extrusion process and how it

impacted conversion process. One improvement was a better control of

"edge weave" in Extrusion that led to better process control in

conversion process.

. Managed Quality measure of Process capability at or above goal.

. Led Autonomous Maintenance team through Step 1.

. Developed changeover procedures on new packaging equipment which led

to cutting changeover time in half.

. Implemented Autonomous Maintenance CILs in the department, increasing

amount of preventative maintenance in the department, which helped in

increasing operating efficiency (OEE) from 74% to 81% in 14 months.

. Reduced Cost from $1.16 to $.96 per stat case in 14 months.

. Improved Safety performance from an average of two injuries a year to

zero for 2008.

Plant Distribution Manager 2004 - 2006

Responsible for all Distribution operations of more than 50 hourly

employees and 1 salaried employee in two locations. Primary

responsibilities included cost and inventory management, coaching and

advising distribution employees on operational issues, also proficient in

Value Stream Mapping.

. Became very proficient in SAP as it relates to production, inventory

management, shipping, cost management, order management, and how it is

utilized throughout the supply chain.

. Developed productivity tracking system and cost management system that

led to $120,000 in cost savings in one year.

. Successfully led startup of new 200,000 square foot customer warehouse

in Salem, VA, from hiring 10 new employees all the way through startup

in a period of 3 months.

another location that met or exceeded all inventory related goals.

that resulted in a more efficient operation.

Glad Wrap Department Manager 2002 - 2004

. Gained knowledge and expertise in the Cast Film Wrap Extrusion process

which helped make necessary changes to the PM program on the extruder.

This resulted in better process capability that helped increase

operating efficiency in film conversion from 58% to 70% in 16 months.

One example was getting all four shifts to use the same process for

screen pack installation on the extruder.

. Improved cost performance from $1.05 per stat case to $.95 per stat

case in 16 months.

Line Pair Manager 2000 - 2002

Accountable for production of Pampers and Luvs (diapers) for two production

lines (50 employees) in the lean manufacturing (TPM) environment of a large

Procter and Gamble plant, with more than 1300 employees. Primary

responsibilities included the development and growth of all employees in

the department, delivering Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and

operating efficiency (OEE) goals.

. Achieved all Safety, Quality, Cost, Productivity, and operating

efficiency (OEE) goals while in the position.

. Implemented Autonomous Maintenance Steps 1 - 3 on both lines enabling

all employees to be certified which helped them obtain higher pay

levels in the plant.

. Responsible for all personnel improvement plans in the department and

executed all at 100%.

Maintenance Manager 1998 - 2000

Managed all maintenance systems and maintenance employees for 8 diaper

lines. Primary responsibilities included organizational development

programs, management of 7 maintenance systems, maintenance and repair

budgets for each line, and development of a failure analysis position.

vibration analysis on rotating parts.
