OBJECTIVES:
To begin a career as a successful Microbiologist in a Research and
development department in Biotechnology or Pharmaceutical Company for the
welfare of people and patients lives.
EDUCATION:
Masters in Microbiology and Immunology from New York Medical College, NY
(Year: 2007-2010)
Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology from University of Mumbai (Year: 2004-
2007)
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:
. (Dec 2009 - present)
I am currently working as a research technician in my college in the
Microbiology Dept. I am doings RNA purifications and extractions from
various strains of Streptococcus pyogenes. Also cDNA preparations and
qRTPCR's apart from growing cultures and streaking plates. I also
analyze the data and maintain records of everything, thus developing
my computational and organizational skills. I find myself professional
in MS office and spreadsheets. I have also learnt antimicrobial assays
and western blots.
. (Aug 2007 - Dec 2009)
I was working as a research assistant in the Physiology Dept. I was
being trained on animal tissue culture and also nitric oxide effects
on hypertension and hypertrophy. It included dissection of bovine
hearts and lungs and isolating the coronary and pulmonary artery. It
was inclusive of tissue culturing. We were working on the contractions
and relaxations on these tissues by adding drugs and also knocking
down genes with si rna's and then checking their effects by tone
studies. We also checked the superoxide levels by help of
scintillation counters. I also have a strong experience in handling
mice and checking their heart rate and bloodpressure by CODA
instrument. I also have an experience in mouse animal models.
(Aug 2006- June 2007)
. I have successfully completed on-job training in Rossari Biotech: one
of the Biotechnology company in Mumbai, India: a project on enzyme
assays. Being the team lead of 5 people, team work helped us succeed
in the project using UV spectroscopy for our experiments.
. I have also worked for plant tissue culture project (PTC), in my final
year project. It mainly focused on the part of culturing it in given
sterile conditions, thus helping me learn techniques of cell
culturing.
(Oct 2004- Aug 200 2006)
. I also undertook a project in Yogeshwar chemicals: one of Mumbai's
leading pharmaceutical companies which provided me lots of help and
support to complete my project on assays.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
. A wide range of techniques were practiced repeatedly for the project
study at Haffkine Institute for Training, Research and Testing, one of
India's leading research centre located in Mumbai which included:
1. RT-PCR,.
2. Extraction of DNA and RNA.
3. Agarose Gel Electrophoresis techniques including PAGE and SDS PAGE.
4. Flow Cytometry.
5. ELISA., RIA
6. Chick Embryo Innoculation,
7. Western Blot techniques.
8. Protein Purification
9. UV spectroscopy.
. I have been trained in my college Microbiology Lab on various
Microbiology techniques like Staining, plating, Sterilization, aseptic
techniques, inoculation, incubation. After which I used to assist my
professors in teaching my juniors the following techniques.
. Transfer culture
. Techniques for Isolation of Pure Cultures
. Streak Plates
. Spread Plates
. Cultural Characteristics of Microorganisms (Colony Morphology)
. Preparation of Bacterial Smears
. Gram Stain Technique
. Light Microscopy
. During my bachelors in Biotechnology, I had Chemistry as one of the
subjects. I had assisted my professors in performing HPLC and Gas
Chromatography. During my final year I trained my juniors on doing
these techniques.
. Currently, I have confidently mastered techniques like Western Blot,
Measurement of superoxide by using Scintillation Counters, Protein
Assays, Tone studies, Dissection, and using the LAF in my research.
. I also completed a Bioinformatics Diploma course from my college which
has made my computational biology knowledge quite strong. The subjects
included in it were Computational biology, Cell biology, Molecular
biology, Genetics and a bit of IT. I was amongst the top 3 students of
the college. It was a one year course.
. I also undertook a project in Yogeshwar chemicals: one of Mumbai's
leading pharmaceutical companies which provided me lots of help and
support to complete my project on assays, which also lasted for a
month.
. I also have volunteered in KEM hospital in the administrative
department. I have also looked after patient records. Entered patient
history by using excel and MS Office. Ordering stuff and receiving
phone calls were also some duties I had done.
. Apart from that I have also taught in schools upto 5th Grade. I used
to assist in pre schooling and have a good experience handling
toddlers. As I love children, I used to teach them educative games and
drawing.
. I have been very active in my undergraduate and graduate college. I
was an event manager and used to host various shows. I used to be
active in all activities like sports and stage shows, etc.
SEMINARS AND PRESENTATIONS:
. I had attended a workshop on "Bioinformatics and Drug Design" held in
the SIES Institute of Environmental Management, wherein they helped us
analyze the causes and effects of drugs, how they design them, etc.
. Participated at "Characterization and Analysis techniques" for Nano
Technology Research Center, Birla College. Kalyan.
. I had presented a Plant Tissue Culture Seminar of my project entitled
"PLANT TISSUE CULTURE" in the INTERCOLLEGE PROJECT SEMINAR of our
District and was a winner.
. I have also taught my juniors as an assistant of my professors in my
own college. The subjects I taught were restricted to Cell biology,
molecular biology, genetics and DNA replication
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:
. I had also completed a Net- Weaver course of NIIT in which I learnt MS
Office, Internet, Spreadsheet, etc and so my basic computer knowledge
remains an added advantage to my profile.
. Participation and Presentation for various AIDS awareness programs.
. Being active in extra curricular activities, I was crowned as "Miss
Personality" of my college and also the best event Manager of 2005.
Even currently I am the event manager of my college, New York Medical
College.
. I have passed the elementary and intermediate exams of drawings which
has helped me to present my presentations impressively in seminars.
. Some of my added hobbies are: Playing Casio, Reading books and
Writing poetries, Swimming, Playing tennis/badminton & most
importantly, making friends.
.
