ACHIEVEMENTS:
Upon arrival at Quantum Engineering, the company was running a single shift
with a total of sixty five employees.
After six years of my employment, the company had grown to a two shift
operation with over one hundred and twenty employees. The majority of the
increase was in the production areas. I was personally responsible for the
staffing, training, and production of all of these employees. This included
the Shift Supervisors, Technicians, and the Assembly level personnel. I am
proud to have done a successful job in increasing the production
capabilities, until the company's sale and relocation. I was also on the
Transition Team responsible for moving the manufacturing facility to a new
out of state location.
At Hansgrohe, I was hired to develop an electroplating department. With a
defined budget of three million dollars. I designed and constructed a
process laboratory, wastewater treatment system and plating line.In the
early stages of the project, I worked extensively (on design) with the
Engineers in Germany that were building the equipment. I also worked with
local contractors on the preparation of the plant prior to the equipment
arrival. I had obtained all of the environmental and construction permits
and had the department running in less than a year. It started as a bare
warehouse and ended as a state of the art plating department operating
three shifts with over 30 trained employees.
At Sun-Glo Plating Company, as General Manager, I noticed there was a
problem with the existing pricing methods. Working with the company
controller we devised a new pricing formula. With the new formula I found
the company's third largest customer was still receiving prices that were
quoted over fifteen years ago. I had several meetings with the customer and
was able to negotiate a 20% price increase. The customer realized the
pricing was too low and was happy to continue business with the new pricing
policy.
Also, during that same year at Sun-Glo Plating the company had filed for
chapter 11 bankruptcy. After my first year as General Manager the company's
performance was a record year in both sales and profit. The company came
out of bankruptcy following that year, and is performing well today.
As Quality Manager at Sun-Glo Plating Company, My first duty was to
implement a quality management system compliant to ISO-9000 standards. The
system was completed in one year. This reorganization and focus of the
company saved thousands of dollars due to better quality, reduced waste,
and a new systematic approach to problem solving and continuous
improvement.
Seaboard Metal Finishing Company was using a very expensive chemical
process that I felt was a great opportunity for cost savings. After doing
some research, I found an alternative process that would be a direct
replacement and give similar quality results. After persuading the plant
manager to let me try the formula I made a successful switch. The company
saved over $50,000 per year in direct raw material costs. They are still
using the formula today, over ten years later.
In 1994, at the University of New Haven, I received a scholarship from The
Hunter-Grubb Foundation. It is a private foundation that provides
assistance to one eligible student. In that year I was named the top
student in the field of Environmental Sciences. My grade point average was
3.91. This grade was particularly difficult to achieve, because I was
working a full time schedule during my studies, and taking graduate level
courses for undergraduate credit to expedite my education.
