Prior to the recent acquisition by M&T Bank, Provident Bank was the largest
independent commercial bank headquartered in Maryland, with over $6.4
billion in assets. Provident served individuals and businesses in Greater
Baltimore, Greater Washington and Central Virginia through a network of
more than 150 branches and over 2,000 employees.
Executive Vice President, Operations/Information Technology/Organization
Support 2007 - 2009
Led a diverse group of divisions that encompass a team of internal
consultants with a depth of expertise to provide value-added support to the
organization. Areas of responsibility included: Human Resources,
Operations, Information Technology, Marketing, Strategic Planning, and
Administrative Services. Also had significant interaction with the Board of
Directors and the Compensation Committee of the Board.
Selected Accomplishments:
. Developed the University of Provident's Leadership Institute that created
and implemented an expanded leadership development effort for all levels
of leadership. Deepened succession planning efforts, to include
identification of high potentials, critical position/back up and
retention risk analysis resulting in a corporate talent map for present
and future.
. Led organization wide initiative, "WPW: Winning The Provident Way" that
resulted in $32 million in cost reductions over two years.
. Successfully re-negotiated Metavante Contract (core processing vendor)
resulting in a $9 million savings.
. Led Provident Bank employees through acquisition by M&T Bank. Retained
significant number of employees through conversion by ensuring
consistent, candid two-way communication and high-touch support.

. Significant role in organization wide initiative to move from a product-
driven organization to a customer relationship focused sales culture.
Championed the Relationship Sales Culture Staffing & Training team,
providing direction,
guidance and support for the staffing and training initiatives developed
by the team. Two specific results: development of "We are all Bankers",
a unique learning experience that all employees participated in that
focused on each individual's direct impact on developing customer
relationships; and comprehensive review of all incentive plans and
development of an Incentive Steering Committee to ensure plans were

. Developed and implemented an Employee Engagement survey to measure not
only employee satisfaction, but level of engagement in their work and the
organization. Results: 63% of population considered fully engaged
compared to a national benchmark of 50%.
. In an effort to minimize growth in healthcare expense, developed a multi-
year Benefits Strategy that resulted in limiting expense growth to 3%
each year while maintaining a very competitive benefit offering.
Recommended to Board of Directors changes in Pension Plan design that
resulted in a 1st quarter savings of $1.4 million and an annual savings
of $1 million going forward.
. Implemented a comprehensive performance management program measuring
performance against critical objectives and core value leadership
competencies, including individual development plans, retention
strategies and coaching tools.

1997 - 2000 Recruited by Executive Management to lead
the Human Resources Division, which included: Employee Relations,
Staffing, Training, Benefits, Service Quality and Payroll Departments.
Selected Accomplishments:
. Drove an organization-wide effort to reduce turnover that included:
creation of a Retention Specialist role that focused solely on research
and development of retention initiatives; creation of Retention Planning
and Analysis tool for managers that was implemented bankwide; and
implementation of individual Retention Plans for every employee. Results
included annual branch employee turnover reduction from 70% to below 50%
in a one year period and a minimum of $3 million in cost of turnover
expense.
. Developed the University of Provident to assess, deliver and measure
learning experiences. Significantly improved training, learning and
development across the organization.
. Significantly enhanced the performance management system, including
creation of Individual Development Plans and introduction of 360 degree
feedback measurement.

Reporting to the President, shaped and led the human resources strategy for
this $4 billion commercial financial institution serving customers across
two states and the District of Columbia with more than 100 branches and
2,000 employees. Citizens was acquired by Crestar Bank in March of 1997.
Led a team of 25 human resources professionals and managed a $6 million
budget.
