Sr. Product Engineer – Forward Engineer for Passenger and Knee Airbag Systems (2002-2009)
Created next generation airbags. Analyzed customer(s) requirements, and selected components, materials,
and manufacturing processes to balance cost, mass and performance. Interfaced with customer during
technical review of quote proposals. Delivered Bill of Material (BOM) with estimated cost of components
to product team.
• Led development team to create a structural plastic design to replace steel components.
Achieved 80% reduction in tooling cost, 20% reduction in module mass, 40% reduction in
component costs and increased vertical integration.
• Completed Design for Six Sigma project which provided analytical data used to validate math model

Single shot injection molded thermoplastic over-molded with urethane foam – high end.
• Multiple patented concepts for assembling the driver airbag.
Interlocking airbag cover eliminated 8 fasteners.
Unique cushion retainer reduced fasteners from 12 to 4.
• Both facilitated cost and manufacturing improvements by eliminating blind rivets.
• These same patented concepts were used on every Delphi designed driver airbag from 1997-2009.
