Dear Human Resources:
I am writing to express my interest in the open Business Sales Analyst
position.
We just finished the budget cycle and my project work as a temporary Budget
Analyst at Paradise Valley Community College is completed.
Please find a copy of my resume, references, and letter(s) of
recommendation.
I am a Microsoft Certified Application Specialist for Excel and Access.
Formerly these certifications were known as Microsoft Office Specialist -
Expert.
In my position as Principal Budget Analyst, I worked with Vice-Presidents,
Deans, Department Chairs and Charge Center Managers to develop their Fund 2
budgets for FY10-11. This work made a positive impact on the college as a
whole. Stimulating many conversations between the different levels of the
college and initiated a greater understanding of each budget manager's
budget.
I developed a process for collection of requests for new, increased or
decreased course fee information. I updated the course fee request in the
Budget Development System (BDS). These requests were then presented to the
Governing Board.
I developed a Multi-Year Financial Plan and Projection spreadsheet that
considers the impact of enrollment growth, budget cuts, and tuition
increases.
Additionally, I developed ad hoc reports as required by various parties
within the organization using the College Financial System (CFS), Oracle
Web Financials, Discover 2000 NT (Browsers 2.0), the Budget Development
System (BDS) and the Automated Planning & Budgeting System (APB).
In my previous work as an Accounting Analyst at the New Song Center I did
all of the monthly reporting and analysis. Unfortunately, income was down
and the New Song Center reduced its staff in response. The good news is
that the Executive Director will be an excellent reference. (See the last
page for Letter of Recommendation.)
When I was in college I worked as the Computer Lab Manager at the Eberhardt
School of Business. I managed six computer lab assistants, taught computer
introduction classes, and instructed students one-on-one on computer and
application usage. Since that experience, I have maintained a superior
knowledge of several computer applications.
After graduating from the Eberhardt School of Business at the University of
the Pacific with a finance degree, I took a Marketing Manager / Office
Manager position at a Law Office. While at the Law Office I planned and
implemented marketing to bring in new clients for Estate Planning seminars.
This included producing booklets, brochures, and advertisements (Radio &
Newspaper) to support the monthly seminars. I was able to obtain the City
of Phoenix as a client for their retirement seminars. I also managed
office personnel and was responsible for major procurement decisions.
Through my work I was able to double income through process improvements
and cost reductions.
Since working at the Law Office I think that my most important work
experience comes from starting and managing an importing company called
Zepter Sports International for seven years. One area where my education
helped was in performing the accounting and finance functions for the
company. My work as the Operations Manager included forecasting and
performing cost accounting for each product and potential project. I also
created budgets comparing actual to budget on a regular basis.
Additionally, my work involved issuing Letter of Credits to foreign
suppliers and various domestic and international banking transactions.
At Zepter Sports, I worked independently and successfully managed multiple
large projects on a continuous basis. I have many years experience working
in a variety of groups as the group leader and also as a supporting group
member. Many of these projects went from initial conception to completion.
I am also a good writer and have the unique experience of writing for an
audience consisting of non-native speakers. This experience has taught me
to think about each word I write and to choose words carefully to concisely
convey the intended message. I have learned to be a much better
communicator.
My past business experience translates into a better understanding of
future finance projects and will allow me to better convey financial
information to the managing executives.
I have intermediate to advanced skill in Microsoft Office 2007 Suite of
products. Furthermore, my computer skills have always been advanced and I
have always learned new applications quickly.
Please call me at 602-***-**** with any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Russell Kelsall

RE: Russell Kelsall
This letter is to recommend Russell Kelsall as an excellent Accounting
Analyst. I hired Russell in the spring of 2008 to provide structure and
protocols in our accounting department. He immediately stepped into his
work needing very little direction and guidance. He took initiative and
worked independently, seeking out direction and guidance as needed and
quickly grasping the scope of work.
He maintains a high level of attention to detail and has the ability to
work effectively in an open environment that was occasionally crowded and
noisy with other workers and volunteers. He demonstrated the ability to
make good and timely decisions without overstepping his level of authority.
He was willing to make suggestions that would enhance the work environment
and improve outcomes.
Russell also worked well within the existing culture of the staff. He
demonstrated an ability to work effectively with all members of the staff,
being willing to take on whatever responsibilities that were needed. His
behavior at work was always professional and he was willing to "go the
extra mile" whenever asked.
I highly recommend Russell as a knowledgeable and professional colleague
and would be willing to hire him again in the future.
Sincerely,
Lisa Schmitt
