ATLAS COPCO, Drilling Solutions Division, Garland, Texas 9/ 2000 - 10/ 2009
Senior Design Engineer, Sustaining Group (2008- 2009)
Senior Design Engineer, New Product Development (2000 - 2008)
. Conceptualized, developed solid models and production documentation and
BOM's to implement a new PV275 tower structure with larger capacity drill
rods to open up new market segments not covered by the initial product
specifications.
. Conceptualized, proposed, planned, managed, and implemented a quick
interchangeable tower assembly to meet Peabody Coal's special requirement
for deeper drill depth and tower swap time on their multi-machine order
which was delivered ahead of schedule.
. Analysis, presented, and implemented a 65' single-pass tower option on
the PV271 to meet Stafford Mine's special requirement which resulted in
other world-wide customers wanting that option which increase their
mining efficiency.
. Rescued the PV270 prototype project from a major structural design flaw
in the mainframe resulting in 157 machines being delivered worldwide from
2003 to 2008.
. Conducted feasibility analysis for multiple new projects.
. Analyzed field problems, formulated and implemented solutions through
field instructions to repair damaged equipment.
. Developed, modeled, and tested new drill rod carousel to handle larger
capacity drill rods on the CM780 crawler product and to resolve the
indexing problem on the existing design.
STANLEY, Mechanics Tools Division, Dallas, Texas 6/ 1998 - 8/ 2000
Senior Project Engineer, Drive Tools Group
. Designed new hand tools for the consumer, professional and industrial
markets to meet or exceed ANSI standards.
. Provided engineering support for new ratchet projects and cost reduction
to meet company objectives by using new materials and manufacturing
process (powder metal, MIM, investment casting, hot forging, and die-
casting).
. Conducted component hardness, ratchet ultimate torque, and cycle life
testing for product performance verification and preformed ANSI required
testing as well as analyzed root cause of product failures.
. Utilized rapid prototyping (SLA) technology to develop new ratchet
samples to be used during customer focus group meetings to determine and
evaluate market acceptance.
INGERSOLL-RAND CO., Rotary Drill Division, Garland, Texas 10/ 1983 - 4/
1998
Engineering Manager, Large Blast-Hole Group (1995 - 1998)
Design Engineer - Development Department (1983 - 1994)
. Managed a team of engineers and designers to support existing large blast-
hole products in the field and shop production of 63 drills built and
delivered worldwide.
. Reviewed new projects and evaluated options for feasibility resulting in
the completion of two of the largest sale orders in the company's history
for Russia and Indonesia that invoiced $11.45 million and $9.58 million
respectively.
. Planned projects and scheduled resources for the development of new large
blast-hole products for future markets.
. Conceptualized the basic rig configuration and produced designs on major
structural, hydraulic, and electrical system for numerous self-contained
crawler mounted blast-hole drilling rigs and a truck mounted water well
drilling rigs (DM-M, T3W, DM-30, DM-M2 and DM-M3).
. Invented the double rod feed system used on the DM-M3 which simplified
and surpassed the feed speeds of all existing equipment as well as those
of our competition and still resides as the class leader which generated
$35 million in sales revenue within 7 years of inception.
. Project leader responsible for upgrading the DM-M from 60,000 to 75,000
pounds of drill bit load and incorporating product improvements to the
overall performance. Instructed, coordinated and managed the efforts of
a design team to complete a $2.5 million rig order for Australia.
. Conceptualized, structurally analyzed, created, and implemented a new 185
hp hydraulically driven rotary power-head gear box for the DM-M3 and a
new 165 hp rotary power-head for the upgrade program to the DM-30.
