WORK EXPERIENCE
TEMPORARY POSITIONS: TOMTEC, INC., CT; US MACHINE TOOLS CORP., CT; SHOCK
SYSTEM, INC., CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER
06/2009 - Present
MOORE TOOL COMPANY, Bridgeport, CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL MACHINE DESIGN ENGINEER 12/1999
- 02/2004; 11/2004-05/2009
. Redesigned the largest bridge type CNC jig grinder, added an aesthetic
enclosure and a tool changer to meet the mould industry's ever increasing
demand for higher accuracy and productivity by applying heavy duty roller
guide ways and ball screws, the most accurate linear scales and matching
the moving masses' inertia.
. Designed bridge type machine to cut slots with up to 8 super-abrasive
cutters simultaneously in hardened stainless steel moulds used to produce
ceramic filters for automotive industry. The machine increased
productivity 30 times.
. Conceptualized and manufactured 71" stroke I.D. and 37" stroke O.D.
spindle CNC vertical grinder with hydrostatic rotary table to produce
hollow steel shafts with inconel plating up to 100 inches long used by
shipbuilding industry.
. Redesigned and managed the rebuild of large horizontal lathe at the
customer's facility, upgrading its capacity to handle up to 200-ton parts
by spindle with a 900,000 in.-lbs. of torque drive and hydrostatic steady
rests. Used for climb milling groves with high rate of chip removal by set
of up to 8 saw cutters on power generation rotors.
. Engineered and designed machine for facing, milling and drilling radial
and axial holes on up to 120" diameter root sections of fiberglass
windmill blades for wind power generation.
. Invented and designed electromechanical mini-broach with high speed and
load capacity planetary roller screw driven by a 150 Nm servomotor for
finishing hard to machine aircraft engine blade roots in flexible
manufacturing cells.
. Created a dual spindle slicing/dicing machine performing cleaner, more
precise climb cutting in ceramics in all directions, eliminating wasted
non-cutting moves. Record 37 machines were made for the semiconductor
industry
. Designed compact 12" diameter trunnion-type and robust 80" diameter zero
backlash rotary tables with split worm drives, roller bearings and glass
encoders to assure 1 arc second repeatability for jig grinders and
machining centers.
EDWARD SEGAL INC., Thomaston, CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL MACHINE DESIGN ENGINEER
03/2004 - 11/2004
. Designed a high speed indexing dial type door lock assembly machine..
EDGETEK MACHINE CORPORATION, Meriden, CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL MACHINE DESIGN ENGINEER
03/1998 - 12/1999
. Designed and manufactured 5-axis super-abrasive machine with 24" cube
work area for large turbine components requiring radial machining such as
nozzle segments and blade roots for aerospace and power generation
industries.
PRODUCTO MACHINE COMPANY, Bridgeport, CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL MACHINE DESIGN ENGINEER
09/1995 - 02/1998
. Created from conception to completion at the customer's site the world's
largest glass polishing machine with a 168" diameter granite table. Four
machines were produced to polish glass for lasers and telescopes.
THE BODINE CORPORATION, Bridgeport, CT
SENIOR MECHANICAL MACHINE DESIGN ENGINEER
08/1992 - 09/1995
. Designed tooling and fixtures for automated assembly machines for
consumer products, electronics and automotive.
. Conceptualized and designed 7-point stake station to stake the lid and
body of a fuel pump by advancing tooling with 7 fingers. After initial
contact a tapered ring kept moving closing the pivoting 7 fingers
simultaneously.
. Designed large capacity hopper for storing and distributing straws for
insertion into containers. The distributor was made from a hard anodized
tapered ring replacing some 12 assembled components and assuring reliable
operation.
. Designed large capacity magazine based on 12 position cam driven indexer
for plastic fuel pump impellers. Some 600 impellers were packed into
single 24" tall tubes.
