Selected Accomplishments
Orchestrated sale of software development company for 6X sales multiple.
Pursued search for strategic buyer where software application was a good
fit to their existing business model and markets served. Led all
negotiations, returning far more than expected to sellers.
Propelled $200M in sales revenue and positive cash flow for private equity
investment company start-up. Raised $60M in equity, debt, and development
financing from investors, banks, and strategic partners. Launched or
acquired 20 start up or turnaround companies. Built a valuable investment
portfolio.
Prepared company for IPO. Shaped and finalized the tax-free de-merger of a
substantial subsidiary grouping in a complex reorganization in preparation
for an IPO of that investment holding company.
Turned around a military electronics business in deep decline following the
completion of a major US military contract with nothing to replace it.
Restructured the business to focus on product development, cost savings
including plant closures. Laid foundation to drive sales from $30M to a
current level in excess of $100M.
Built long term sustainability into satellite pay TV business. Revamped
and rationalized the satellite pay TV business by transforming the cost
structure and increasing prices to sustainable profitability. Decreased
costs and overhead by $10M.
Reversed rapidly eroding financial condition of Millicom. Shares had
fallen from $20 to $3. Architected and executed tax-free cross-border
merger of US and international companies. Led new company to NASDAQ
listing. Increased share price fourfold+ and managed debt burden down from
$100M to $50M in 3 years.
Raised capital that enabled Millicom to fund its operations and
international wireless businesses. Orchestrated a tax-free sale of a Hong
Kong cellular business for $150M fueling growth capital. Spearheaded
domestic and international fundraising projects including primary and
secondary offerings. Negotiated financing with banks.
Employment History
Managing Director - Cairn Executive LLC - 2004 to present. Cairn provides
international companies consulting, Board advisory and interim management
services. Personally lead multiple business projects for client companies.
Also, formed an alliance with an M&A firm to represent buyers in corporate
transactions. Clients are private equity, strategic and private investors
operating seeking transactions between $20M and $500M.
President, CEO and CFO - Great Universal Incorporated - 1994 to 2003. An
investment holding company, part of Swedish/Luxembourg-based Stenbeck
organization. Portfolio businesses include, military electronics,
satellite pay TV, call center operations and CRM, telecoms technology R&D,
consulting and more. Recruited as EVP and CFO in 1994. Promoted to CEO in
1995.
Also served as Managing Director of SISF, an international professional
service company providing business risk management, financial
investigation, corporate governance (including SOX), internal audit for The
Stenbeck Group operating in 50 countries through 400 companies and
ventures.
CFO - Millicom, Inc. - 1992 to 1993. NASDAQ listed international
development stage group with fixed and wireless communications and media
operations in 20 countries. Group Financial Controller - 1990 to 1992.
