Lee TranServices, Inc., Lufkin, Texas 2004-2010
Director, Information Technology Department (2004-2010)
Directed the efforts of the Information Technology staff in support of the
hardware and software
infrastructure of Lee TranServices, Inc., a leading transportation
regulatory compliance company.
. Supervised new software development and maintenance of existing
proprietary software, purchased productivity software, multiple
Windows based servers, 50+ PCs, printers, and telephone system.
Developed two new major web based software applications as well as
automating numerous internal manual processes. Replaced four aging
servers and older PCs. Installed additional layers of software to
protect the network and client company's sensitive data. Result:
Production environment was stabilized and protected. A new
proprietary software system replaced a failing Driver Qualification
system resulting in a better system and improved sales. A new
proprietary Fuel Tax system replaced a purchased system resulting in
thousands of dollars in savings monthly. Employee productivity was
improved.
. Supervised build out and move to new office building. Supervised
completion of new office infrastructure including layout of office,
installation of lighting, cabling, electrical outlets, white noise,
new phone system, setup of cubicles, build out of a new server room,
scheduling of contractors, network switch over, and the physical move.
Result: No significant down time or loss of productivity as a result
of the move to the new office building.
Temple-Inland, Inc., Diboll, Texas 1992-2003
Director, Systems Development and Support - Shared Services (2000-2003)
Directed the efforts of a staff of 24 IT professionals and managed a budget
of over $2.0MM in support of financial, tax, audit, personnel and payroll
systems shared by three divisions of this Fortune 500 financial services
and forest products company.
. Assumed responsibility for the software applications support of the
Banking Division for Temple-Inland while retaining support for the
Forest Products Division. Acquired applications support for the 3,500-
person Banking Division with 150+ locations in California and Texas.
The company's acquisition strategy was intended to accommodate the
acquired company's policies and procedures. Created extensive data
maps to identify and migrate data into Temple-Inland's Personnel and
Payroll systems. Result: Successfully integrated 3 major bank
acquisitions in a 2-year period.
. Developed a contract review process. Designed a database that tracked
vendor contracts and contract renewal dates. The program enabled the
company to identify contract renewal dates and then manage renewal or
cancellations. Result: The program provides a systematic and
organized approach to risk management of 3rd party service providers.
. Developed and implemented a project management methodology.
Prioritized and managed the department's work requests using on-line
and email methodologies. Result: The system improved department
operating efficiencies, provided accurate, real time status reports
and satisfied the Audit Department's requirements.
Director, Corporate Information Services Department (1992-2000)
Directed and managed the Information Services staff of 18 IT professionals
and a $1.5MM annual budget in support of financial, tax, audit, personnel
and payroll systems for the Forest Products division of this Fortune 500
financial services and forest products company.
. Directed the implementation of a consolidated accounting/general
ledger system. Led a team of consultants and technicians to migrate
the complete financial systems from 2 freestanding accounting software
packages to a single integrated system. Result: The project was
completed on time and on budget and improved the speed and efficiency
in providing financial/management reports.
. Managed the implementation and rollout of PeopleSoft Human Resources
system. Directed the software installation and user training for
approximately 150 people at 24 remote locations. Developed conversion
programs to convert existing data and populate the database on the
server. Designed the initial set of HR reports. Result: Project was
completed on time and on budget resulting in faster access to more
accurate personnel information.
. Developed and implemented new electronic records retention policies
and procedures. Result: The new approach became the standard
throughout the corporation.
. Developed and implemented disaster recovery procedures for software
applications. Devised a testing / authentication method to ensure that
all software applications were correctly backed-up and complete.
Conducted annual disaster recovery tests to ensure ongoing systems

. Assumed responsibility for the software applications support of the
Forests Products Division for Temple-Inland. Provided applications
support for the 4,000-person division in 24 locations. The company's
acquisition strategy was intended to accommodate the acquired
company's policies and procedures. Created extensive data maps to
identify and migrate data into Temple-Inland's Personnel and Payroll
systems. Result: Successfully managed the integration of 6 major
plant acquisitions and 5 plant divestitures over a 5-year period.

Senior Systems Analyst / Project Leader (1983-1992)
. Implemented new Dun & Bradstreet Expert Series financial system to
replace existing, obsolete system. Result: The project was completed
on time and on budget and improved the speed and efficiency in
providing financial/management reports.
. Expanded the capabilities of numerous manufacturing and financial
applications by adding new functionality to existing programs.
Result: The manufacturing applications were greatly improved and
streamlined by the addition of new planning and forecasting
applications and a new manufacturing engineering application that
reduced the in-process time required to move the customers orders
through the manufacturing process.
Applications Systems Analyst (1978-1983)
. Achieved significant cost reduction by replacing Arthur Andersen
consultants and completing design and implementation of a customized
manufacturing and control (MACPAC) system. Result: External
consultants were no longer required to design and implement the fully
customized manufacturing system. All future system support and
customization would be conducted by in-house personnel.
