Project Manager and OM, Cost Functional Lead
Dual Role as Project Manager and Functional Lead (OM and AR) to a trading
company based in Englewood Cliff, New Jersey. Primary nature of business
of this client is trading in commodities like metal, copper and stainless
steel.
This was a full life cycle implementation on (11i) 11.5.5. I started from
the process of requirement gathering, mapping, process flows documentation,
gapping, customization mapping, CRP I and II (Conference Room Pilot) till
the time we went live on November 01,2002.
Major Customizations done at this site, in which I was involved as on
functional design, which had an impact on Order Management, AR and
Inventory, PO (costing).
. Custom Costing engines were created which was running parallel to
Oracle Cost engines (standard cost).
. Cost was getting booked at 'Actual' Receipt cost.
. Shipping and RMA was being done 'Actual' Cost (COGS and Inventory)
. Inventory Valuations at Actual Cost (Based on Receipt).
. Move Order functionality was re-written to map Business requirements
. Reservations based on quantity received would update Sales Order Line
automatically.
. Cost was captured at three levels - 'Estimated', 'Accrued' and
'Actuals'.
. To book Estimated Cost custom form was created. Accrued cost (Receipt
and Distribution) was automatic (based on receipt or shipping).
. Custom form for Comparing 'Accrued Cost' with 'Actual Cost' to post to
General Ledger.
. Workflows for Sales Order Approvals (Credit and Sales Persons quota
limits).
. Revision controls for Sales Order changes.
Role as Functional Lead in Order Management:
General OM Setup:
. Business Requirement Gathering, mapping, gapping, future business process
designs, presentations to the core team on future business process
designs.
. Setups on Order Management- This included creation and mapping of the
following business transaction types like-
- Back-to-Back
- Blanket Sales Order
- Depot Sales (Sale against multiple Purchase Orders)
- Consignment Sales
- Just in Time
- Processing (Similar to outside processing without using Mfg
Modules)
- RMA (Return Material Authorization) Standard Oracle
Functionality
- Scrap
- Change in Phantom Item (Item size is not firm)
. Creation of Pick release, staging process (based on transaction types),
Invoicing based on quantities shipped (basically a profile option),
Invoice source types, AR Transaction Types and AR Auto accounting
methods.
. Reservation of items based on receipt quantities, which would
automatically change the sales order quantities at line level (Std oracle
will reserve quantity based on sales order line quantity or less not
more). This piece was customized based on the business requirements and
understanding (each receipt was being booked at actual cost).
. Shipping and Execution feature of 11i:
- Staging Process (Split lines for consignment process after Pick
release). This was to simulate 'Consigned Inventory' at Customer
Location. Business requirement was to do a credit check at two
levels- (1) Order Booking (2) at Pick release Process (Pick
release was to mimic depositing material at customers warehouse
(staging sub-inventory). Multiple shipments would take place
from staging sub-inventory based on customer's usage reports
(lot based). This was done using the standard 11I features of
Pick release and then splitting lines in staging without
creating delivery orders. Delivery orders were auto-created
(manual operation).
- Trip Management - Requirement was to ship to multiple
destinations (some times same customer) on the same
truck/container (typical milk run feature). This requirement was
addressed by creating 'Trips'; User defined Delivery,
Associating Delivery to Trip, Delivery Lines to Delivery and
planning the delivery. We deferred the Inventory Interface until
the time the confirmation was received from the trucking
company/customer (the material would be held as "In-Transit").
After confirmation the user would close the trip (concurrent
process) and the inventory would be depleted, COGS would be
booked and invoice would be generated for the shipped quantity.
Advanced Pricing Feature using Basic Pricing:
- Freight Charges: Setup freight and shipping charges both at
Header and Line level (Ship confirm Level). Extensively used
Modifier (QP) and Formulas.
